Sadly, we didnt get to experience much of this hotel! We recently stayed at this hotel for two nights as part of our car tour. Unfortunately as the two nights arranged for us fell on a Sunday and a Monday, there was no food or bar after breakfast on each day! We had been prepared that there was no dinner available, but had been told that the restaurant closed at 18.00, so we were looking forward to a nice lunch after our drive from Berlin. Sadly we went away hungry! The castle is very impressive as you drive up, but we found we werent staying in the hotel. We were in the annexe which was a short walk from the main hotel. It was pleasant enough! Lovely quiet and clean room, although a little small, but we were able to park the just outside our room. As we couldnt have lunch at the hotel, we took the tram into the centre of Dresden. We were able to buy tram tickets from Reception, and the tram stop was a short walk from the hotel. It was very easy to use, and very convenient. Breakfast in the castle was very good. Beautifully presented, with plenty of choice, served in the restaurant. Sadly the weather was a bit too cool to eat on the terrace, overlooking the river and with views of Dresden. I would have loved to have experienced the restaurant for dinner. The hotel recommended a Brauhaus for dinner, which was a few stops away on the tram. Im not sure why they didnt suggest the bistro/bar at the castle next door. We have told the tour company that maybe they should consider the days when arranging the tour in future. We would have liked to have experienced more of the hotel than we did.

Greetings from 19th centuryThe impressive house at the high bank of river elbe is well worth visiting. We enjoyed the marvelous scenery from the restaurant and terrace on Dresden and the river. Although rooms in the Kavaliershaus do not face the river, they are quite comfortable, modernly furnished and as clean as you can expect. There is plenty of space to hang out in the huge park. The greenhouse protects a camellia tree not quite as big as the one in Pillnitz but also impressive. We definitely will come back.

We loved our stayThe few days we stayed here resting from our adventures and getting ready for our new daily adventures including touring Dresden and the Saxonian Switzerland was made even better by spending the extra money and time to enjoy the breakfast and coffee with a stunning view of the Elbe and the Dresden country side.

Avoid, avoid, avoid. This was the biggest disappointment in my long hotel booking history. A castle, wonderful, good value for a castle, wonderful........... eh! No. Their definition of an annex to the hotel is a building in the woods, we christened it the cow shed. No frills available in this barn, no coffee, no mint on the pillow and a bathroom smaller than a public toilet. We made the shocking, disgraceful mistake of parking close to the castle, we were asked to move it for those staying at said castle. We were made to feel like something the cat dragged in. We thought a drink would help our spirits but we were only allowed to drink in the lobby of the socially segregated castle. We had recently showered so that wasnt to blame. We were not in ripped jeans and tee shirts so that wasnt their reason for institutional humiliation. Discrimination against my Canadian partner or my Irish ancestry is not usually grounds for abuse so we dismissed that quite quickly. Dont be fooled by the Schloss moniker or the romantic photographs of palatial and well appointed rooms. If you like bijou in the forest this is for you. We didnt dare risk further discrimination opportunities so we didnt try ordering room service, not that we believed there was any. No menus in the stripped down ski cabin we were billeted in. Oh and if you have vertigo or a fear of heights this isnt the studio room for you. There is a steep stairs to the bed sitting on top of the bathroom ceiling. Pyjamas (whilst not supplied) are a vital part of the guests toolkit. Curtains were an extra that unfortunately we forgot to ask for so walking down from the attic to the toilet is a voyeuristic risk you have to be willing to take. While Covid is a serious issue I am not sure it warranted the ceremonial handover of the unwrapped pair of bathroom glasses by the front desk clerk with his bare hands. All done because they wanted to be doing their bit for virus suppression. What a joke. My advice, buy a tent and pitch it on the grass outside the hotel gate, it will be a less humiliating experience than staying in this socially snobby establishment. The room was equipped with a white noise machine, the label said air conditioner but white noise was what it was best at. It was a remote control version, well it was for my partner, when she wanted it off she said so and I got up and hit the power button. There was a remote control but it didnt work. The towels were unlikely to be the ones used in the main house they were not young with luxury never having been a part of their history. Take some advice from me, stay downtown and spend the savings on a nice dinner and a few beers. Dresden is a lovely town and everyone we met in the service industry was kind and attentive. Schloss Eckberg must fly their reception staff in from somewhere else and give them training on who is important and who is not. Oh and one more thing, dont dare bring more than 2 devices it is verboten, 2 is what you get, why would you both want your phones and iPads online, silly idea. Oh and in case you think Im a serial moan, please look at at my other reviews all of them positive because thats what they deserved to be.
