    Excellent

Warm friendly helpful staff, clean fresh rooms, would of gladly paid twice what they asked. Even offered to give us a lift to the ferry port when we asked for a taxi. Would heartily recommend this place to anyone visiting this beautiful island. Staff really couldn't do enough for us.

Not the relaxing holiday we had hoped for.

My daughter and I stayed at The Riviera Hotel last week. When I booked through booking.com, I had booked a twin room, but on arrival discovered it to be a double. The single beds were pushed together and seemed to be a good size and comfortable, so didn't ask for it to be changed. The staff spoke very little or no English, so felt they wouldn't understand anyway. The room was very basic and relatively clean. There was only 1plug socket which a tiny television was plugged into. We had to take it in turns to charge our phones and put the mozzie repellent in. The bathroom was cleaned each day and towels replaced. The shower screen was a plastic concertina effort that leaked and flooded the floor after each use. The bathroom mirror was dirty from the previous occupants and remained so for our entire week. Breakfast was very poor. Neither of us drink coffee, which isn't a problem as there was an assortment of fruit juices on offer. The coffee was made from the machine at reception desk and bought through to your table when you were seated. There were coisaunts or bread rolls and jam or yogurts. There was a box of cornflakes, but no bowls or spoons or milk. When I asked the man that was making the coffee for a bowl, he didn't understand what I meant, nor did the lady that was helping him. I pointed out the picture on the box depicting what I meant. He returned to our table with two cups of steaming hot milk from the machine and two empty cups to put our cornflakes in and combine. Obviously gross. The fruit shop down the road did very well out of us for our breakfasts. We had room 15 that had a balcony and great sunset views each evening. The Hotel is very noisy at night, with comings and goings all hours. The floors in the public areas are marble with high ceilings and big heavy wooden bedroom doors. When people stomped up the stairs, still shouting and chatting then slamming their doors, it was like a prison door being shut and echoed throughout the building. We tried to get up at around 8am each day so we're out and about early. On one morning after a particularly noisy night we layed in late and didn't get to breakfast till 9.15. Everyone else had gone out already. The next morning we were woken around 8 by loud music playing on a radio in reception, obviously a hint for us to get up!! The hotel is situated towards the Southern end of the island, a ten minutes walk away from the beach and a few restaurants and a small harbour. You can walk from one end of the island to the other in an hour and walk around the whole island in a day. The streets are very narrow and mainly cobbled, with little or no paths, but quite dirty with litter, graffiti and dogs poo. The island is like a mini city, there is so much traffic, mainly scooters tooting and whizzing past at great speeds. Quite hard going if you're unsteady on your feet. The smell of 2stroke engine fuel is everywhere even when ur eating. We didn't find any quiet shady corner to sit and relax out of the sun and read away from the traffic anywhere on the island. There is a bus service that charges 1.70 anywhere on Procida, but if u need to a taxi they charge around 15 for the 10 minutes journey from the port to the Hotel. Food in the local restaurants is mainly fish and pasta dishes with the option of pizza. Hardly anywhere had English menus as this island seems to be a place where the Italians holiday. We found it very hard to communicate what we wanted and often got basic tomatoes and spaghetti as that's all they could be bothered to serve us as they didn't understand. Overall we found most of the Italians unhelpful and bordering on rude, the holiday very stressful, noisy and not relaxing Would definitely not return

    simple and friendly

It's a simple, clean and affordable hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The beach is an easy 5 minute walk from the hotel. There is a bus stop right in front of the hotel which connects to the center/port - or a nice 30 minute walk. Otherwise a 5 minute walk to the second port of the island.

    Perfect family hotel

For the past week our family of three have been staying at this wonderful hotel. Some people have complained about staff not speaking english, but we have had no problems with this, the staff have all been so accommodating, welcoming and friendly. My advice to those who complain about the lack of english spoken on the island, is if you can't handle traveling to another country and accepting that English isn't their first language, then don't bother traveling. Procida is the most beautiful place I have ever traveled to, and this hotel and the staff only made our experience all the more better. They were always on hand to help and tell me about the history of the island. I will definitely be coming back to this hotel in the not to distant future.

Good value and views but a bit inconvenient and needs updating.

The views are great from this hotel, but it needs a bit of updating and work and it is a taxi drive away from the center of town where the ferries and hydrofoils dock. But it offers a very good value if these limits are fine with you. There is another beach much closer to this hotel, if you're not interested in going into the main town.
