Best hotel in Sakata, but still averageThe hotel is clean and new but there isn't a whole lot going on...but it is Sakata so don't expect too much. The beds are the hardest things I've ever slept on. They would kill my wife. You definitely need a strong sleeping pill to get through the night. The breakfast buffet is just okay. Still recommended over any other hotel there. Most complicated AC/Heater units I've ever seen. Luckily this time it was so cold outside I didn't need the AC.

Choose other hotelsRidiculously expensive ( twice as much as the superb Niigata Nikko tower!!) in a bla-bla commercial center at the edge of town.Could not even put one suitcase in the bedroom so small it was .No edge around the bed except on one narrow side. No English TV news channel in this not so small town. Restaurant , in fact more like a café but with scratched floor and chairs and only a simple buffet except for a "sake special" which I must admit was excellent so at least one good point especially there is nothing around their isolated location. Will not go back for sure.

Comfortable room, yummy breakfast and very warm hospitality from staffsBeing in a Thai group tour on a business trip, I stayed one night in a corner room where I could enjoy views from two side. Room was clean and roomy consisting of 2 single beds for only single occupancy. The hotel specially held an evening party for my group. Several hand-on activities were cleverly prepared such as close-up fugu filleting in the kitchen, self cooking sushi and takoyaki, flowing soba and geisha performance. I indeed really enjoyed the stay and got well pampered by the hotel staffs. A lovely lady even searched and found an umeboshi for my request in the middle of the party. All in all, I will return to this hotelagain if I travel to Sakata.

Good staff, excellent breakfastUpon checking in, our room was more than a bit on the small side. We went to the front desk to see what options we had and fortunately there was a room a bit more than double the size for a small premium, a great deal. Room 916 had two double beds, a sitting area, a large work desk and bathroom and three windows two facing Shinyama, the local version of Fujisan, and the end walls window facing Sakata Port. The windows did not open much, but with three of them it was enough for some good fresh air. The beds were very firm and the duvet was just the right weight to sleep in a cool room. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide choice and a bright and cheery room. The staff were excellent throughout, friendly and professional. The hotel is a short walk from the very interesting rice museum and a walkable distance from most of the area restaurants. I will return here on my next visit.
