A FRIENDLY HOTEL IN A QUIET LOCATIONWe had a pleasant welcome from the receptionist/waitress once she recovered from the shock of seeing two trekkers at lunchtime. Our room was small but adequate, clean and neat with old fashioned furnishings. The shower curtain was cut short and mouldy, in need of replacement. Shower good. Lunch and dinner were simple but satisfying. Breakfast was simple with bread, toppings, croissant and OJ - but fresh. This was day 19 of our 25 day trek through Les Vosges. The last two stops were were Hotel Le Bonhomme in Le Bonhomme and Chalet-Hotel Le Collet near Col de la Schlucht. Our next stop is at Hotel Restaurant Wolf at Le Markstein.

A Welcome at the End of a Long DayWe arrived, tired and hungry, after a 30 km hilly walk carrying our rucksacks;our first stop was at the busy bar as we were all in need of a drink and a rest. Our rooms were basic but cheap; they needed a good clean and a makeover. Dinner was very good with fresh trout and excellent sald but we declined breakfast as it was a basic French breakfast at 7.50 euros and we thought we could buy better at the local bakery. This, unfortunately, was closed for the holidays so we set off with empty stomachs!

Good hotel but...My friends and I spend here 1 night during our hiking trip. We were the only guests. Maybe because it was his closing day. The hotel seems to be run by 1 person, an older, very friendly man. For dinner, he prepared us some local specialty, I'm going to call it roadkill casserole. I thought it was pretty good, but I was the only one with that opinion. After that we got a cheese platter. I left the table with a full stomach. Later in the evening we had a drink or two in the bar and had a nice chat with the owner. When he thought it was time for him to go to bed, he showed us where to turn of lights and left us in the bar. The rooms are a bit outdated and actually too dusty. This couldn't be because of the closing day, dust was way older. Breakfast is terrific. For a breakfast of 5 guests, it was extremely varied, with different cheeses, all kinds of meat, fruit, yoghurts, different kinds of bread, very impressive. The hotel is an excellent location to start hiking in the area. There is a road going straight up to Le Markstein and further up to Grand Ballon. I wouldn't wait too long to pass by as I think that once the man thinks he's had enough, there will be very probably nobody to continue running the hotel.

Lovely older-style Hotel in a delightful valleyThe room was in the corner looking out at 2 directions and the views were delightful. I arrived late and the village at night is quiet and rustic. A very helpful lady spoke English and showed me to the room. My room was comfortable with real sheets, a blanket and bed-cover. Bathroom was clean with soaps etc. and functioning. Breakfast was wonderful and the elderly man was happy to explain everything in English and cooked an egg for me. It was great. I did walk around the village in the morning and the hotel is opposite an information map for walkers and there is a bus stop there too. The address shown did not appear on my TomTom, however it is the main street and the only street, so you cannot miss the hotel. It does close at 9pm (21h00). If you do go out before that - the room key fits the outside door. The free WiFi works well. A delightful stay.

Great visit, great familyThis is not so much a hotel as it is a family home with a restaurant and some rooms attached to it. The room I had was small-ish, but clean and comfortable. There wasn't anything in the room that you'd describe as posh, but that's not the point. And they even stored my bike in their shed free of charge.
