Great overnight stopAs long as you don't expect a 5* experience in a 3* hotel and you're not a fussy eater, this hotel makes a superb overnight after a long day's drive from Calais or elsewhere. Rooms are small but clean and have tea and coffee making kit (I know, in France?!). The set dinner is 4 courses, well cooked and presented and a cheese board from heaven. No choice but a dessert was readily adapted for me (minus squirty cream - not after all that cheese!). Service is friendly. Location, five minutes from the A71. Traffic noise at the back of the hotel will wake you by 06.30 but then you're ready for that final push to the south. And all this for 114 euros for 2.

Not really a LogisThis is a member of the Logis de France whose hotels (generally 2*) we have used a lot. This one was 3* but disappointing. Its like a modern chain hotel, rooms rather small and lacking any real character. We didn't use the restaurant as the menu was a bit pretentious for our taste.

A nice welcome for an overnight stopWe found this hotel after choosing Saint Flour as somewhere to stop overnight on our way home from the Costa Brava. The hotel is just outside the town but I understand there is another town on a higher level - which we didn't visit. The hotel is well situated and easy to locate with good, but not secure, parking. We were warmly welcomed by the owner who showed us the room prior to booking. Our room had a spa bath, safe, hairdryer, adjustable heating and a massive bed for 88Euros. The corridors were dark, painted brown; the key fobs were massive causing a lot of clanking in the night as people arrived and left. We chose to eat pizza locally rather than eat in the hotel. We then came back to the hotel's bar for a drink. All staff were busy in the restaurant so it wasn't very easy to get served and I got the impression not many people actually used the bar area - although it was well stocked. We were a bit concerned that a member of staff poured the remains of the peanuts she'd given us with our drinks back into the jar - so maybe avoid those! The breakfast was quite nice - fresh croissants and french bread, yoghurts, fruit and orange juice plus English breakfast tea - nice touch. The male owner was lovely, friendly and welcoming. Not so much any of the other staff - which was a shame.

A place in France to avoidThe surly and rude manageress, especially in the dining room. Our menus were basically chucked on the table when other guests were handed theirs with a smile. When we chose our diner she insisted we chose a sweet at the same time. So we decided to go without. We wanted to pay for the meal when we finished, that didnt go down too well either. The water in the room was barely lukewarm too cold for a shower, the toilet seat was loose and the sliding door wasnt hung correctly. We decided not to have breakfast so we could check out sooner, we paid the correct amount 79.80 euros twice as much for what we had to endure. We thought the Ibis in Le Mans was poor but The ANDERS IN SAINT FLOUR WAS APPALLING.....AVOID AT ALL COSTS, especially the dragon of a manageress who could do with some urgent training in humility and manners
