Buen lugar para recrear cuerpo y espiritu. Tranquilidad.. sauna, aromaterapia, piscinas.

    The Stamp of Quality

This was an ideal hotel for a restful holiday in the Austrian Tirol, right on the lake front and a short stroll from the village amenities. Although the hotel was very busy it was never noisy or congested, the location itself was peaceful, and the facilities were never crowded. Our suite had loads of room and a lake view with a balcony, and was very comfortable (apart from the feather pillows) and clean, with no obvious noise intrusion trom nearby rooms or even the corridor. The restaurant provision was of a high standard: an extensive choice at breakfast and hot food prepared on the spot, and well presented four course dinners with a good variety of dishes. The staff were pleasant and helpful, and we had the use of two swimming pools, spa, sauna, wellness room, etc. etc. plus the lake bar and ice cream parlour literally on the water. We used local buses, boats, the train and cable cars thanks to an all-inclusive ticket purchased at Reception, and enjoyed the opportunities for walking and relaxing in the village and beyond. Highly recommended.

Overall good, but room for simple improvements

I stayed here in August 2019. This was my third visit to Austria. My review is probably more relevant to guests visiting in summer than in winter. Overall impression - lovely hotel, good food, friendly staff, spectacular location, amazing selection of outdoor activities, hillwalkers' paradise - generally very positive. A few negative comments first (dogs, flies, dangerous automatic door in swimming pool, noise late at night, spiders) but please continue to read all the positives that follow. 1. Dogs. Like most hotels in this area (perhaps most hotels in Austria?), Post am See welcomes dogs. Dogs stay in guests' rooms. Oddly, the rooms in which dogs stay are carpeted. Dogs are dogs - all over the world, dogs molt and dribble and have dirty posteriors, and these same dogs are on the carpets that other guests walk on, sometimes barefoot At least dogs weren't allowed in the dining room. If you are allergic to dog dander, please be sure to ask for a room that is not used by dogs. In fairness, I have to say that our room was spotlessly clean and we had no problem. I just can't imagine that the rooms that host dogs are hygienically clean. Dogs also get wet when it rains and the smell of wet dog was sometimes noticeable at reception and in corridors. We also saw one dog shake himself dry at reception - drops of water covered a large area. Dogs are great - they have a place in life, but (unlike most Austrian hotels) I don't think that place is in a hotel. 2. Flies We saw flies on the food in the buffet area of the dining room several times. I even managed to take a photo of a fly on my daughter's plate on one occasion - in the single photo of a plate that I posted with this review, the fly can be seen near the right corner of the plate. 3. Dangerous automatic door at outdoor swimming pool. Lovely pools, but be careful of the automatic sliding doors. They closed on my daughter's toe and broke it. Following an x-ray in hospital in Schwaz, her foot was put in plaster. Staff in the hotel expressed sympathy when we told them what had happened, but the manager was 'cold' and when I suggested that he might put up warning sign about the automatic door, his response was that it had never happened before. That she was 'the first' was little comfort to my daughter. 4. Noise Noise at night. This is by far the most significant negative comment I have about Post am See. If a good night's sleep is important to you, Pertisau's lake front is definitely not the destination for you in summer. Rooms 200, 202, 204, 300, 302, 304, 400, 402, 404, 502, 504 and 506 are all above the outdoor dining area and the exit from the bar. Guests sit chatting noisily in this area and guests also emerge into this area when leaving the bar at night. If it's warm and you'd like to leave the window open, bear in mind that you'll be able to hear these guests, and sleeping before midnight will be difficult or impossible. There is also a steady stream of noisy pedestrians walking by, and occasionally jumping into the lake, only to start screaming when they realise that it's cold. That screaming usually continues for a few minutes, and is then followed by raucous laughter as teenagers discuss how long it will take their clothes to dry. And then there's the noise of the hotel bar, either when they have an oldies night or a casino night. Reception closes at 10, so there is (conveniently for the hotel) nobody to listen to or deal with any complaints about noise when noise is an issue. If you do still want to stay here, consider asking for a room at the back of the hotel (generally the rooms with odd room numbers) as these rooms have a great view toward the Karwendel mountains and also enjoy great sunsets. Rain at night was always welcome as it reduced the number of people walking and talking outside. One employee in Pertisau ended his / her shift each night at 11:30 and then drove home on a moped that needed a new silencer. I can't have been the only guest who was woken up regularly by the same moped. Hopefully Hotel Post am See will take this up with other local businesses. 5. Spiders. There were dozens of spiders on the ceiling above curtain rails, on the railings outside the window and on the bathroom ceiling. Cleaning staff who were otherwise excellent need to 'look up' more often. Those five negatives have to be looked at in the context of the hotel's overall offering. While the flies are a serious hygiene issue, and the automatic door is dangerous, my other 'negatives' are minor, or a matter of taste. And issues with noise are due to the guests not the hotel. And now the good stuff, and there's lots of it! If you find any of this useful, please give me a helpful vote. Check-in was fast and efficient. Reception staff were helpful. Reception was closed from 21:00 each evening until 08:00 the following morning, and access was via a side door. Finding the hotel was easy - it was visible for several kilometres along the approach road to Pertisau. Finding the room was also easy. Wheelchair access was good. One member of staff used a wheelchair in the kitchen and the swimming pool area. Initial impressions were positive. The lake-side location is spectacular, and every room, including those at the back of the hotel, has a superb view. I'd insist on a room at the back of the hotel if I came again - much quieter, and great sunset views. Room sizes varied, but our Karwendel suite offered plenty of storage and enabled us to put our cases away. The balcony was small but had a pretty flowerbox and great views. The bathroom had a double wash hand basin and a large shower cubicle, with a window that provided a superb view of the Karwendel mountain and great ventilation. The hotel provided hair / shower gel and a hand cream. Towels were changed frequently and were clean, soft and pleasantly scented. The beds were firm (a positive for me) and the pull out beds in the sitting room were VERY firm / too firm. They also had protruding hard wooden bases on which legs and ankles were easily caught - uncomfortable / sore, but unlike the automatic swimming pool doors, not dangerous. Bed linen was clean and crisp. Noise - see my negative comment above. The hotel was generally quiet, although music was audible from the bar until after midnight some nights. There were no issues with noisy guests in the corridors, but noise on the street outside was a problem at night. Most of Pertisau goes to sleep by 11 pm - very few people are outside after 10 pm, but those who are outside make more than their fair share of noise. Curtains blocked light well. There was no iron or ironing board in the room, nor was there a mini-bar or tea/coffee facilities. A room safe was provided free of charge. Heat / ventilation. The room benefited from plenty of fresh air from two door-sized windows and four other windows. If the entrance door was left open, air which was often stale and / or smelt of cooking flowed from the corridor into the room, but as long as we closed the door quickly it wasn't an issue, and with windows open, the fresh mountain air quickly aired the room. Windows could be opened fully or tilted. Lighting in the room was good. Breakfast was pleasant. Superbly fresh rolls and croissants, good choice of bread. Meats, cheese, cereals, fruit salad, fruit, yoghurt, preserves. Omelettes and fried eggs prepared to order. Great selection of tea available in the bou-tea-que. Pool area was clean and pleasant. Separate indoor and outdoor pools. No changing rooms, so guests were asked to change in their bedrooms and wear robes when walking to the pool. Just be careful of the automatic door at the bottom of the steps leading to the outdoor pool. Excellent spa and gym facilities. Table tennis. Wellness Centre includes a sauna with incredible views over Achensee, and a steam room. Guests can also swim in the lake (Achensee) at the hotel's See Bar across the road. Activities / facilities for children - a small, reasonably well equipped play room for toddlers is available on the first floor. TV provided a selection of Austrian, German, Italian channels. There may have been others, but we never turned the TV on. No DVD player, no radio. Food was good. We ate in the hotel almost every evening, and were never hungry afterwards. Shops nearby - small Spar shop about 300 metres north of the hotel. Otherwise, use MPreis or Spar, 7 minute drive away in Maurach. Car hire - no facilities in Pertisau. Nearest fuel (petrol / diesel) station is in Maurach and is open from 6.00 am to 11.00 pm. Bicycle hire - excellent choice of bikes, mountain bikes and e-bikes available in Sport Leitner. Some bikes and e-bikes also available in the hotel - ask at reception. Guests can also borrow an electric golf buggy from reception - I was just unlucky and it was only on my fifth attempt that the buggy was not already being used by another guest. Parking - free but don't be last to arrive, as there aren't always enough spaces in the hotel's own car parking areas. WiFi - free. Download speeds adequate, upload speeds languished at about 256 kb/s. Mobile phone signals are strong, possibly because there is what looks like an antenna for mobile network operators on the hotel roof. Environmental issues. Water in taps is of drinking quality, and tastes great. Cleaning staff segregate plastics from waste, presumably for recycling. Cleaning was very good, but cleaning staff need to look up a bit more often to catch the cobwebs and many spiders that live near curtain rails and above light fittings. Local attractions. Loads of them. Take a look at the website achensee dot at for details of local events and attractions. Sailing, walking, hiking, cycling, riding, golf, kayaking, paragliding were the activities that seemed to dominate, and others are available. Hotel offers an intro to Segways on certain evenings, and an opportunity to go sailing on Friday mornings. Be sure to book in advance. TIP - Take time to enquire at reception about the hotel's and the locality's programmes for children and teenagers. Also ask about activities and facilities the hotel offers. And watch the notice board opposite the reception desk for advance notice of 'stuff'. Clientele - I saw cars with number plates from B, CH, CZ, D, DK, F, GB, H, I, L, S, N, NL, SK, and several from A, which suggests that some guests travel long distances to stay here and also that 'locals' use Hotel Post am See too. I didn't see any large groups or very young children, but guests' ages ranged from about 5 to 75 while I was here. Overall, despite a few negative comments above, I'd be happy to come back, but I'd insist on a room at the rear of the hotel to avoid the noise which continued most nights until after midnight. If any of what I wrote above was helpful to you, please give me a helpful vote.
