Great host at really nice hotelStayed here for 3 nights, booked via travel agent in DK. Nice room with balcony at 2nd floor with spectacular view. Was welcomed of borh Mrs and Mr Florian at arrival and was well informed. The breakfast buffet is excellent and eggs cooked on demand. In the evening 3 courses were served, soup, some meat with vegetables and finally dessert. Very good and delicious. Hr. Florian invited us to see movies about Grossglockner and Mozart. Nice to meet such a pasionate Austrian. Both Mrs and Mr Florian speak English. Will gladly recommend this hotel if you need relaxation, close to Salzburg

A delightful base from which to exploreHotel Schwaighofen, Eugendorf, Austria and surroundings You can be assured of a warm and friendly welcome from your hosts, Erika and Florian, at the Hotel Schwaighofen. They have plenty of helpful information about things to see and places to go. The hotel is situated a little distance outside the village, in a quiet area, so it is as well to ask for directions when booking. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the menu is good and varied. Meals can be taken in the dining room, or on a covered terrace or outside on a patio, all with panoramic views over a green valley to the hills beyond. Salzburg is only ten kilometres to the west. There is a convenient Park and Ride there which saves seeking a suitable car park in a strange city. The old town is a pedestrian precinct and is so interesting. There are small streets with very varied shops, many beautiful churches, squares, some of which have delightful markets and of course everywhere the musical association with Mozart. On the other side of the river is the lovely Schloss Mirabell with its beautiful garden and a spectacular view of the Salzburg and the Festung Hohensalzburg; the great fortress which overlooks the city, which you may want to visit. Quite near Salzburg is the Freilichtmuseum where farm buildings and artefacts from former times have been collected from districts all over Austria and reconstructed. It gives an insight into how life was lived in times past and the crafts and skills of the people. A little to the south of Salzburg is Werfen Castle, which guarded the valley at the height of the salt trade and from which Salzburg gets its name. On some days they have displays of falconry there. To the east of the hotel is the Salzkammergut; the Austrian Lake district. Although there is some public transport, to explore the area fully you really need a car. Hallstättersee has the lovely village of Hallstatt nestled against the steep valley sides and has associations with the Celtic people who lived and worked in the area. The Celts worked the salt mines and you can visit a salt mine at Hallein, where you travel down inside the mountain accompanied by a guide, who may yodel! There is an interesting Celtic museum at Hallein. There are lakes that you can walk round in under two hours while enjoying the fresh mountain air, the trees and the lovely forest flowers. There are lakes where you can enjoy a coffee or a meal while enjoying the view. If you wish to travel a little further, to the south, there is always the Großglockner Hochalpenstraße with its spectacular scenery, glacier and marmots. There are so many things to see and do that you will wish you had a longer holiday with such a delightful base to which to return!

Road tripWe stayed here 2 nights, spending a day in Salzburg. The hotel is in a lovely location and we were lucky enough to get a room with a balcony, with a lovely view. We were able to watch a thunder and lightening storm from the balcony. Thankfully our hosts spoke English and were very helpful in planning our stay. The room was very comfortable, the bed the most comfortable of our trip, the en suite was clean with a powerful shower. We had a good breakfast both mornings which kept us going till late afternoon. Drinks on the terrace is also very relaxing. We would certainly return here, next time bringing bikes and planning more outdoor activities.

Expensive for what it offersOwners are welcoming but the rooms much less. Too narrow, poorely equipped (no hair dryer). The walls are so thin that you can hear what people are saying on the opposite side of the hotel. The pension offer an international breakfast.
