Fantastic little oasisWhat an absolute gem! We stayed in two of the bungalows - they were very spacious and immaculately cleaned (as was the rest of the hotel) every day. There is a large fridge (containing chargeable soft drinks) in each room with tea/coffee making facilities and bottled water is provided daily. We found the mattresses super comfy (the pillows slightly less so) and there was a generous supply of coathangers (I have a thing about not having enough coathangers!) The staff were the friendliest, most helpful bunch of guys and an absolute credit to the place, I don't think you could meet a nicer guy than Prabath, the manager. We used the laundry service which was very reasonably priced, quick, and our clothes came back beautifully washed and ironed. The pool is lovely with great views to the sea and was cleaned daily - there are one or two sharp edged tiles in the pool, just take a little care. Breakfast is served overlooking the bay and consists of toast, butter, jam, eggs, juice, fruit, tea and coffee or an eastern breakfast can be requested in advance. Chargeable extras are bacon and cheese. Yes, it is up a steep hill (so steep that it's a real novelty!) but as previous reviews mention there is a free tuk-tuk service until 9pm - it really is no big deal and not worth marking the hotel down for. My only gripe was the music from a beach party on the Saturday night but I am a really light sleeper (the kids slept through it). Would I stay here again? Yes, yes, yes!

'Free taxi to up'We stayed for two nights. Yes the accommodation is up a very steep hill but there is a bell to ring for a 'free taxi to up'. The lovely staff were always quick to come and retrieve us from the bottom and the kids loved the tuk tuk ride up the hill - they wished it was longer!. The grounds are well maintained and the pool is great. The bungalow was clean and spacious, including the bathroom. There was a minibar in the room with free water and cheap soft drinks (for a minibar). We didn't pay to have breakfast included and headed out to a nearby coffee place and bakery but the views from the restaurant area were great. Not far to Unawatuna beach itself but you do need to cross a busy road. The beach itself has many eateries and finding meals isn't hard. The tortoises in the grounds were an added delight. Would certainly stay again.

Hidden GemAn authentic hotel with spectacular views of Unawatuna beach from the hotel reception/lobby, dining area and swimming pool. Unfortunately to see such views, there's a hill to climb! Every day, 3-4 times a day - the steps leading up to the hotel is steep! However, the hotel provide a free ride to the top if required. During our visit in April there were power cuts every day, which was across the town - however the hotel should get a generator as we had no power for 60% of the time we were present in the hotel. The decor is a little dated and old but its clean. Breakfast was very pricey compared to other restaurants, we only ate in our hotel once during the 4 night stay. A little quiet and mainly for families and couples. The location is great for those wanting to be slightly away from the hustle and bustle but 5 minute walk from the main beach.

Lovely locationThe hotel is up on the hill, hence the views from the pool over the Unawatuna beach are beautiful. This is one of the great things about the hotel, that even though the hotel is up on the hill it's still super close to the beach. Staff were very helpful and accommodating - felt very welcome. Relaxing hotel and grounds - lots of tropical plants/trees, wildlife, and nature.

Such a tranquil place to stayI had a wonderful 5 days here. The staff really looked after me and even arranged delivery dinner service because I was too lazy to go out some nights. The tuk tuk taxi service up the hill is such a fun thing and well worth it once you reach the top. I would stay here again without a doubt.
