    Excelente

    Jekyll and Hyde

We had seen the reviews on line and it all looked wonderful and we booked because of them. Arrived at the hotel lunchtime Tuesday. On the surface it looked amazing, great room, great views, staff seemed relatively friendly. Housekeeping is excellent and sheets, towels smelt wonderful and the cleaning staff were amazingly friendly. we settled in nicely although we were rather astounded to see the free bottle of wine was a 200ml botte, the free water wasnt available and we were told we would have to pay (unheard of for a 5star hotel). We then later went out to eat at the nearby Marmalad restaurant, (that is another story). Came back to our room to relax but at 11pm the music from the open air club about 5 doors down from the hotel started. It was so loud it made the room pulsate, this went on until 3am. Woke late having experienced a very distrurbed nights sleep. Went to Breakfast, very poor for a 5 star hotel. Staff at restaurant were surly and not very welcoming. Selection was very poor and was exactly the same every day. Food open on table with flies buzzing around. Got the impression from all the restaurants on the marina that if we werent russian then we didnt merit attention despite having paid good money to stay at the hotel. On our second day we went to the hotel pool which is part of the bar belonging to the restaurant Marmalad, we checked with the reception that we wouldnt have to pay for loungers etc, yes, we could use the pool and loungers with no charge. Wandered down and lay on a big double style lounger, we were there an hour, having ordered cocktails ( not prepared in front of us and obviously lacking a proprtion of the alcohol), we sat and read and swam, after an hour we were suddenly told to move or have to pay 16 lev to use the lounger. I was furious and went back to the hotel. The young man on reception was very helpful (not so the girl who seemed more interested in chatting on her mobile phone and took the "meh" attitude) and went to see the pool staff, they came up with some stupid excuse that the loungers were new and that the management of the hotel hadnt been told that these ones incurred a charge and we couldnt use them, odd that they took one hour to tell us this and that it coincided with them clearing them aside for a busier evening period. I am afraid it all seemed very unprofessional. This really upset and angered us. That night the loud music started again and went on until 6am, on the Friday night (we stayed 4 tortuous nights!) the music started at 3pm and went on until 8am the next day (Saturday), the excuse given was it was the first of July (not a national holiday or anything). It seemes that whatever we said was resonded to by some feeble excuse that didnt even seem plausible. The marina is a beautiful area during the mornings and quite tranquil, what is apparent is that no-one gives a fig about your stay unless you are russian and that despite the whole resort being owned by one family it appears to be some sort of private playground for said family with little regards to hotel guests needs. It was so disappointing that we work rally hard earning money for our wonderful holidays to have such a dreadful time and to have spent so much money. Its such a shame as the hotel has real potential but really doesnt fit the bill at all. All style but no substance. Dont even bother complaining...noone cares or wants to listen. I became so anxious while there that I woke with a panic attack one morning and just sat and cried wondering how we would cope with 4 nights with that pounding music at night. It has marred our opioion of our first trip to Bulgaria and to be honest so much so that we definately wont be back although our escape for the day to Nessabar by water tax was a delightful respite. It is such a pity that a holiday that was looked forward to so much offered such an appalling experinece.

    Breakfast fiasco

We booked into the Palace Marina Dinevi for two nights on route to Varna. We know Bulgaria quite well, booked the hotel through Booking.com and were happy to pay more than £90 per night (very high for Bulgaria) for a rare luxury treat. As usual for Bulgaria the service was great and the people friendly. But the breakfast fiasco showed a new level of naivety. Day one the spread for breakfast was very impressive with cold meat and cheeses, yoghurt, eggs, sausage, bacon, fresh fruit, cucumbers, bread, croissants, prunes, apricots and more. Great and the only problem no guests to eat it all. We had the feeling they had prepared it just for us! Then, for day two something must have happened because we were invited to sit and told "Breakfast would be served to the table". What arrived was a large plate of everything listed above. The assumption being we would be happy with meat (we are but many would not be) and with cold food mixed with hot. It got worse because after much debate and a total misunderstanding from the staff why we did not want the 'pile' of food we managed, we thought, to communicate we just wanted toast with honey or jam. "How many they asked", which should have rung a warning bell, "4 or 5" we said and waited for hot toast. What arrived was 5 toasted meat sandwiches. Jam was confused with ham (even with the help of a Bulgarian who spoke perfect English and was by this stage joining us in laughter). As we left the table the Bulgarian lady was also presented with the breakfast pile and was waving it away!

Dinner in the restaurant - incredible!!

2nd time we have visited here as a family and we loved it, same great food and wine, same great service and atmosphere and the views are to die for. Can't recommend this place enough! It's a must if you are visiting the marina! Dinner service is usually about 8, we arrived early as the wee one was hungry and they still accommodated us. All food is home made!

    Best restaurant on the marina

This restaurant is easily missed on TripAdvisor because it's part of the hotel and is a little further down the marina with nobody pestering you to go inside, but it really is gorgeous and the food is unbeatable. The staff are so polite and anticipate your every need. I had a smoked salmon starter which had freshly squeezed lemon juice, and sea bass for the main- it was cooked perfectly and full of flavour, the fries were chunky and fluffy on the inside but crispy on the outside! My bf had lamb which was also incredible, it was so tender. I wish I'd been here every night! It's luxury food for less than you'd pay in the UK and worth every penny. With a lovely view of the sea too.
