Next to a good fish food restaurant

Easy to find but it takes 20 min from the station if you want to walk. When checking in, they ask if you prefer Japanese or western style breakfast. We enjoyed the Japanese one. Room was ok but bathroom is just a "unittobasu". Next to the hotel is a small fish food restaurant. Sushi was lovely but "gaijins" draw attention and you'll need to speak some Japanese.

Great Japanese-Style (Tatami Rooms) Hotel in Aizuwakamatsu

Though the New Palace Hotel would rate a strong 3-stars anywhere else, I'm giving 4-stars as it's hard to find this type of value package here. First, important if your traveling in a vehicle, they not only having parks NG, but it's free. Rooms are Washitsu (Japanese-style Tatami mat), but are spacious, quiet, clean, and have a fine en suite toilet and bath. Good heating/air-conditioning, WiFi, and an included buffet breakfast is available. All for the price of a standard motel in the States, the New Palace is a very good value.

Bring your Own Pillow if you Don't Sleep on Rocks

Located in the CBD, The room was of a medium size and hot with the a/c controlled remotely by hotel, no user adjustment. The window was able to be opened which afforded fresh air. The room had a portable air Humidifier supplied which helped alleviate the stiflingness of the room when the window was closed. The bed was comfortable except for the Pillow. The pillow was small in size and thickness and 'Rock' hard. Our request to Reception for an alternative or extra pillow was meet with the reply; "we don't have any other pillows in the hotel." We rolled up our coats in an attempt to form a more comfortable pillow. Not a great nights sleep was had. Free bottled water was supplied along with Free WiFi which was very slow wrt speed and unreliable wrt maintaining a connection. Unlike most Japanese hotels we had been to, this one had a room safe. Small but modern Bathroom with a good selection of toiletries. The shower was over the high sided bath, which could be a problem for those with mobility or balance issues. The Breakfast selection was about 95% Japanese food with no cereal or tomato juice, scrambled eggs were made to order. Our room was on the South Eastern corner of the hotel which gave us a view of the Tsuruga-j Castle.

TURNED OUT TO BE A GREAT LOCATION

After figuring that in Aizu that the tourist bus system was so efficient this turned out to be centrally located for visiting all the sights necessary to be seen. The staff went out of their way as much as they could, There is relatively little English spoken in Aizu.

Best business hotel in Aizu wakamatsu

I have stayed in various other business hotels in wakamatsu, but this is the best of the bunch. Some rooms were recently renovated, so they are equipped with modern utilities and are also clean. They provide complementary bottles of water, which most business hotels in japan fail to provide. I wanted to stay here for the whole trip, but there were no rooms available. I might just go back on the last day as they have some rooms available then. All in all, a very good hotel compared to its competitors.
