Yes its older but the view from the open air bath was worth itWe really enjoyed our stay here. Yes, as others have mentioned, the hotel is worn and doesnt appear to have been updated but it was clean, service was great, it was peaceful and exactly what we were looking for. We used this as a place to relax half way through our vacation where we did a lot of walking. Its approximately 20 minutes drive from the JR Otaru station. We made shuttle reservations and although we were 5 minutes early for the stated pick up time, the driver left early because another guest was early. I was a bit upset at first because they told me we needed to wait another hour and a half for the next shuttle even though I made a reservation for the 5pm shuttle. Finally they sent the driver back and I was surprised to find out the upgraded our room to an oceanfront room for the mishap. The sunset view from the open air bath was incredible. We definitely want to stay here again and would definitely pay the extra for the oceanfront room. We did go to the lounge for some beer, wine and cheese. Its pricey but worth it. You get a sunset view from there also. We didnt run the meals since they were French meals and we really wanted to experience Japanese meals there. We didnt have time for the aquarium but its only about five minutes away from the hotel. The room came with two bottles of free water, coffee packets and a little bag of cookies baked by the hotel. The bathroom was huge compared to other hotels in Japan.

Amazing view and private onsenWe had a wide king bed room and the view from our window as well as private onsen was to die for. The room was really quite small and the furnishing is quite dated but the view and the onsen definitely made up for it.

Outdated room yet food was deliciousWe chose this hotel as our first hotel in Hokkaido this trip as we wanted to try something different, a hotel on hillside overlooking the sea and with a German hotel name. Reception was ok but speaks little English. Food was delicious though both dinner and breakfast with good service overall especially from Sommelier Matsunami-San being friendly and professional. Room booked was spacious and comfortable but Room decor a bit outdated. Water pressure and temperature was ok except that the Shower needs to be pressed continuously to turn on for water saving. Amenities was average - dispenser by pola and we have in room Onsen. Free minibar was offered with rose wine and Free shuttle bus to and from Otaru station. Last, When checkout, the bill was not presented before charging the credit card. Overall an average hotel with high pricing yet only compensated by the nice Seaview and good food.

Brilliant unique HotelWe recently stayed here three nights and had a brilliant time, the Hotel designed in old fashioned European style with heavy wooden dark furniture but this is part of its charm, views from rooms stunning and onsen bath a must. Staff were brilliant very helpful. I highly recommend this fantastic hotel, i would stay here anytime i visit Otaru.

Top of the worldHotel is old and away from the touristy place, inconvenient to access but it was worth it. The view is fantastic and the onsen in room was perfect for us to rest. Taxi to town cost 2000yen. Breakfast was traditional, rice early in the morning didn't work for us. We got a big room with 2 single bed and a tatami bed was set up as well. Taxi to Mt Tengu cost 3000 yen n took around 20mins.
