Sadly past its primeWe wanted an experience at a more traditional hotel, and the Musashiya seemed to fit the bill: tatami mats, very low furniture, and views of the lake. When we arrived, we were greeted by very friendly staff, very old lobby furniture, and the noticeable smell of mold. Our guess is that there may have been a flood perhaps? When entering our smallish room, we were quickly followed in by a staff member who made us tea and made sure we had the right size robes ("oto-san" here apparently needed a larger one...). The onsen on the top floor was basic and small. Perhaps because it was a week day, we had trouble finding a place to have dinner or breakfast. All this plus the long bus ride to and from the Odawara train station made this trip a disappointment.

Old and moldyThe only good thing about this hotel was the staff. They were friendly and really helpful but the overall experience was just terrible. Room and lobby just smells like mold. The bathroom had mold on the shower curtain and walls were super dirty. This place needs to be updated STAT. Super expensive for what they offer. I will never come back.

A Must-Do!We stayed here upon the recommendation from a family member. This hotel was a real novelty for us - it was a real traditional Japanese experience! The staff are so friendly and the rooms were fun to stay in. The hotel is a little dated but in true Japanese style everything is maintained and very clean so that didn't matter to us. The views from our room of Lake Ashi and the torii were beautiful and the dinner and breakfast we ate were delicious. The best part of this hotel is the onsen! This was new for my husband and I and it was awesome visiting the inside onsen and then the outside onsen in 4 degree weather. This hotel was just a few minutes' walk from shrines and on a clear day you can see Mt Fuji. There is a bus stop right by it to get to and from the main train station. The room did not have WiFi but reception area did. Highly recommend!

Amazing view!We stayed in a room overlooking the lake. The view was so beautiful! The staff take very good care of their guests. Traditional Japanese style room, sleeping on the floor, all furniture is low to the ground. The room we stayed in was very spacious! We brought our pack and play crib for our daughter and it fit nicely. The AC unit worked perfectly! They have a tv and a fridge. The food was delicious, they have western and Japanese style dishes! They have an onsen but we did not use. Highly recommend this hotel!

A beautiful mountain retreatWe stayed here for three nights after a week in the tiny rooms that are seemingly normal in Tokyo. Hotel Musashiya encapsulates everything wonderful about the Hakone-Fuji-Izu region! Rooms have beautiful views over Lake Ashi and of Mt. Hakone. I would highly recommend this room if you are a westerner, travelling in a group or with a special friend! I would also highly recommend visitors book the traditional Japanese rooms for an authentic experience. The rooms were spacious, clean, and had a very peaceful vibe about them. Service from the staff was fantastic and detailed! Everyday when they make your room, they leave a different kind of treat for you to try! The bathrooms are tiny, but that doesnt matter since youll be using their onsen for every shower! Their onsens are located on the top floor and boast an amazing mountain/ lake view too! Honestly, this hotel and the town was such a great experience. I would highly recommend anyone looking for an authentic Japanese experience to stay here.
