Beautiful location for winter funWe stayed here for two nights during Feb and as we came up in the shinkansen from Tokyo we saw the snow get deeper and deeper. The hotel bus picked us up from the small railway station and the countryside was like a winter wonderland. The hotel itself was very nice, nothing fancy but very comfortable. Our room was huge with bed and tatami area. Downstairs there were two onsen for men and women which alternated each day so we could try both. Breakfast and dinner was buffet style and the variety of dishes was impressive. On each evening we were treated to the Akita "monster" coming out from the kitchen and scaring the guest while also posing for selfies which the guests all loved. We walked to the nearby shrine in glorious sunshine and deep snow which made for some wonderful photo opportunities. All in all a great little place to stay

Nice experience but some negative sidesFor us, this hotel provided a great ryokan experience: -We slept on the mats on the floor ( which I found very uncomfortable and had back ache from it - not sure if it is just me or the mat i was sleeping on) - We tried the onsen (=hot bath) more than once (real and great Japan experience!) - The food was great (for us, both breakfast and dinner was included). What was difficult is that we did not have a car. This is a bit of a remote area so if you wanna travel, easiest is to drive. We could solve it with the hotel's transfer and taxi, but like this we were quite inflexible. Also, the pity was that before we came, we tried to contact the hotel how to get there. They did not reply so we did not know that there are free bus transfers (I think 3 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon). So we took the taxi, which cost about 20-25 $. Also, we had bad weather (=rain and cold), in which case there is not much to do besides going to the onsen. I bet in the winter it is a great ski area and if good weather, you can go hiking in the mountains or cycling around the lake. I hope this review helps: in general we enjoyed it a lot and absolutely would not have skipped the experience, despite of some difficulties.

A quiet, relaxing placeA great onsen/hotel. I had a large room with twin beds with half-board which included breakfast and dinner buffets. Great meals. Great helpful, friendly staff with enough English spoken. Hotel has a shuttle service from Tazawako Station to hotel starting at 3:30 p.m. Theyll also drop you off at the lakeshore pier however youll have to find your way back to the hotel from there. A taxi ride from the station to hotel is around 2700-yen. Shuttle service in the morning from hotele to train station starts at 8:30 a.m. Fast, free WI-FI in the room.

Could have been a great onsen experience!Total of 8-guests in 3 separate rooms. 2 rooms were assigned in Main Building and one in the Annex Building. Asked Reception if we can all be in the same building and was told to pay additional 6,000 yen. Later to find out the Annex Building is old and smelly! The room is old and unpleasant! Very disappointed with the lack of communication. We were not told the vast difference between the 2 buildings. Beware!
