Budget Hotel very near ThamelI had booked this hotel based on reviews I saw at TA and other sites and, frankly, I had higher expectations. The hotel is located close to the main Thamel tourist streets, just where the 7-corners stretch starts. As a result, it is away from the hustle-bustle of Thamel. The hotel is pretty hard to find and I would suggest to first-time visitors - arrange with the hotel for a cab pickup from the airport. I was charged USD 8 for this, which I though was reasonable. The hotel is located on a semi-main road, which has traffic, and is opposite a fish shop. I was initially given a rather sad little room on the 1st F. The room had 2 cots, a TV and 2 chairs. The bathroom was dimly lit and the faucet did not work. I requested for a change and I was given a larger room on the 2nd F, which had a double bed and 1 single, a wardrobe, table with chair, two separate sofa chairs and a coffee table. It was far better than the room on the 1st F, despite peeling paint on one of the walls (see pic). The bathroom was brighter though the faucet did not work here too! Neither did the TV! In terms of amenities, the hotel provided the bare minimum, A soap and bath towel in the bathroom, sufficient blankets in the bedroom. And a pair of much-used bathroom slippers, which are to be used by all the guests. The people at the hotel were very nice and helpful, whether in terms of info or directions, changing money, arranging taxis etc. I had also contacted them prior to checkin for info, which they had promptly responded to. One thing I was surprised to note - the hotel does not accept Credit Cards! So, carry cash! For BF, you were given a choice - you could choose from 1 of 3 options and also specify the time. I chose the American bf and found it decent. They can also arrange for lunch/dinner with prior notice. There are plenty of eating places within 5 minutes walking distance. There was no great view from my room, but from the terrace you can get a decent view of the Monkey Temple. Wifi was just okay - could be better. Also, no lift at the hotel.

Wonderful small hotel at the edge of ThamelDuring my six weeks in Nepal, I returned to stay at the family-owned Hotel Metropolitan Kantipur several times (luggage storage is free). I enjoyed my stay here very much. The hotel is located at the edge of Thamel at Paknajol Chowk where taxis park, at the end of Seven Corner Road (the google map is more correct), just off the main road (away from traffic noise). The rooms are large and comfortable. There is always hot water for a shower. The balconies, particularly on the 5th floor roof, have good views of Kathmandu Valley. There is a small but very nice garden with several tables for eating breakfast or just hanging out. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is free drinking water at the desk. The breakfast has 3 options, all quite nice (but two eggs would be better than just one). The laundry service is cheaper than outside (80 NRs/kg for normal laundry, more for items like sleeping bags - 350 NRs). The wifi works in the room, but much better on the balcony. I liked the marble stairway to the upper floors. However, the rooms, while reasonably priced (I paid $16 for a dbl bed with breakfast, at a sgl person rate) are showing their age and need better maintenance, general repairs, and renovation - for example, gaps in the wall, missing window panes, peeling paint, old, loose or broken bathroom fixtures, poor lighting, a single outlet in the room, TV is small and old, etc. etc. I would definitely stay here again, and I hope my suggestions for simple improvements are taken.

Good food and companyI was apprehensive about staying in this hotel but my expectations were exceeded. The location was amazing as it was in close proximity all the good sights. It wasnt noisy either as the hotel itself has a garden and parking which creates space between the road and the hotel. Everyone was very hospitable and helpful. It felt like I was with family.

Location worked, priced a bit high.Stayed here for three nights in 2018. The place is in a good location, on the edge of Thamel. The building is nice overall if not in need of a little update. However, compared to other places we have stayed in Nepal the price was a bit high for what you get. The room was ok but the cleanliness was not ideal. We had ants and other insects in the room regularly. The shower had consistent hot water, which was nice after trekking. The wifi was fairly slow but the place was mostly quiet at night which is not easy to accomplish in a busy area such as this. We found the staff friendly but not overly helpful when it came to information about the area, buses etc.
