Avoid at all cost (contd)..my brother was so disappointed in his choice and humiliated in front of his teenage daughters, that on the way back to Calais, fatigue and stress culminated in his having a massive seizure and it is only by the actions of other travellers in the service station that total disaster was averted. We travelled for 12 hours to reach the Hotel Kastel Roc'h and please, please, please, do not bother. There must be a dog kennel somewhere more convenient and more comfortable.

A culture shockA very drab, dreary, dark and musty smelling hotel like something out of the 60's. I hated the brown carpet and matching brown wallpaper on the corridors. The rooms were terribly decorated, the beds were uncomfortable and the ensuite bathroom though clean was old and musty. On a positive note, the people who ran the place were friendly and spoke good english. In hindsight, had I looked at previous reviews I would not have booked this hotel.

Cheap hotel but well worth staying hereThe hotel was very clean and we had a lovely large bedroom and bathroom. It was very comfortable and we had a great nights sleep. We stayed here on a Sunday and found the super market across the road closed. we went back into Brest and found everywhere here was closed so we was very dissappointed. we managed to find a small shop to buy wine and then decided to head back to the hotel as it had started to rain and we was travelling on a bike. The weather got worse and we decided to eat at the hotel. We went down around 7.30 to find the only person around was the man on reception. I asked him if we could get something to eat and he said he would be with us in a minute. We went back to the bar and the man appeared and showed us to a table and took our drink orders. when he gave us the menu's he came back to us with a french phrase book to help us with the menu. A few more people started to come in then and the very nice man was brilliant at his job and keeping eveyone happy. I must say the food here was amazing and the service even better. Breakfast was good as well. Overall after reading some reviews on here from the past they have spent a lot of time and money making this hotel clean and comfortable. I would gladly stay here again and eat there as well. shame about the weather and it being a Sunday but i think most of France closes on a Sunday. We would visit Brest again but after they have finished putting in the tram lines. I must point out that we stayed in the main part of the hotel as there is a annex at the back so i cant comment on the rooms in there but we had a great stay. (There was a very small swimming pool here as well.)

excellent serviceExcellent hotel; spacious room. Very good quality diner menu at reasonable price. Since there was no buffet breakfast on Saturday morning, the breakfast was served in our room, exactly at the agreed time. It was so complete than we could hardly eat half of it. Excellent service with newspapers and internet and plenty of parking space. Highly recommended.
