  Loved it and would love to go back

  Based on the reviews that I read, I had high hopes for this place, and it exceeded my expectations. The staff and maintenance of the hotel are exceptional. The photos online do not do it justice. I loved the small details like fresh flowers and candles on the table at the restaurant and in the breakfast rooms. It was evident that attention to detail is paid in the upkeep of the hotel. I felt so welcome upon arriving, "welcome" drink and chocolate, yes please. I don't speak German and they made sure to send a server my way during the two nights that I ate dinner in the restaurant. The food was fabulous. I loved the ambiance of their restaurant. Breakfast was great. The location is about a ten minute walk from the heart of Kettwig. It is less than a five minute walk from an Aldi and Lidl. I went for a run each morning in the countryside towards the village of Mintard. I stayed for two nights after being in Cologne for business. The stay was just what I needed to relax after a busy week. This is one of the few places that left me with the feeling that I would love to go back someday.

  Business trip made better by staying here

  Fantastic family run hotel. Everyone was Incredibly friendly and very welcoming. On arrival I was given a welcome local alt beer which was a lovely touch. The accommodation is to a very high standard and so is the food. I cant fault the place

  As good as it gets

  What a find. We pulled into the parking lot in our trusty van and before we could get our luggage our host Juergen, was at hand with two craft beers and a bar of chocolate. The hotel has been in the family for 99 years and it shows. Our room was spacious and well appointed. All rooms seem different and have lots of charm. The bedding was excellent. Bathroom was also good with an excellent shower. Dinner was in the warm and friendly Keller like restaurant, full of locals too. The menu was standard German pub fare, lots of it and with prompt and friendly service. So if you need a stop anywhere near Essen, go no further than this fine family establishment, where the guest is truly king!

  Very nice hotel staff

  We spent a weekend here for a friend's birthday party. The owners are wonderful - friendly, helpful, smiling. We had a suite with a bedroom and a living room. The living room had an A/C but the bedroom did not. We didn't try it so have no idea if A/C works. The shower was a walk in with excellent water pressure; the bathroom had a large counter for 2 people. Bed was comfy and breakfast was good - usual German breakfast. It's a short walk to the River Ruhr and center of the old town. I would stay here again any time!

  Moving from Germany back to Uk

  Having lived in Kettwig for 5 years and visited this brew house many times. We chose this hotel for our final days in Kettwig. Pleasant and very accommodating staff, spacious room and excellent meals. I would highly recommend this place, if staying for bed and breakfast fabulous breakfast with many choices for all. Will be back to see Friends in Kettwig.
