Nice Retreat from hot and humid Tokyo

We stayed there for over 10 days to relax and meet up with friends. They gave us the same room on the second floor surrounded by forest. Wonderfulplace to relax. The only question I had is the pricing, Hotel Okura's publication Ichiko pricing was per room but I was charged per person so double what was published. http://www.okura.com/press/icho201107/index.html#page=7 Isn't this what they call swith and bait?

    Nice hotel but overpriced?

Given the area, name value of the hotel (Hotel Okura group) and where it's situated; you would pay a decent price to spend a night at this hotel. It's center of all main attractions near Karuizawa shopping center (shoutengai), only 2 km by bicycle or walk. We've spent a night with breakfast included. The price was on the high end for one night stay. The room was clean and big enough for two. All the amenities were fully equipped and good quality towels were good to see. The hotel had its own private brand shampoo and body soap which were made of good quality. As we arrived late in the evening and didn't have the chance to have dinner at the premise, we decided to go to a Japanese traditional food place near Manpei Hotel. So no comment on dinner. I had a breakfast the following morning, American breakfast. The scrambled eggs were tasty, but the taste was so so... The check-out was not until 1pm, so we decided to rent a bicycle and check out the town. 500 yen for two hours is very reasonable compared to other shops in town. They might as well provide it as a service and for free. Other than the high end pricing for one night stay, especially for weekends; it was a nice pleasant stay close to main attractions. Will I go back to the same hotel again? Probably not. There are so many other places to check out in Karuizawa.

    Authentic Japanese experience

Up in the Japanese Alps, this is an authentic Japanese experience. Futons on the tatami mats (double up if you can - mattresses that is - for a more comfortable sleep), hot baths, delicious Japanese dinner and breakfast (if you can't sit on a cushion there are short chairs). Remember your slipper etiquette here.

humble hotel in the middle of great nature

There is nothing fancy about Kajima No Mori which is an easy 5 min drive from the town of Karuizawa. However, if you are a nature lover and happened to get a room on the forest side, you would be able to fall asleep with the calming sound of running creek and in our case, rhythm of the rain as well. We checked in this hotel on our way to Nagano for one night and we were pleased to find a spacious room for three. Extra bed was comfortable, bathroom clean and functional, and linens were nice and crisp as one would expects from a decent Japanese hotels. We did not try the hotel restaurants as there were many choices in the town nearby ; hotel breakfast was expensive and did not look too promising. Front desk ladies were very helpful and went out of their way to make dinner reservation and transportation to and from the hotel. Walking to the nearby creek in the morning was a added feature for staying at this hotel, for the moderate price we paid and the getting the high standard service of a Okura Hotel, we thought we made a good choice for staying one night here.

    Excellent hotel and food

Wonderful hotel in a beautiful area of Japan. The rooms are large and pleasant. The staff are totally professional, polite and perfect. The food is Western-style and is truly excellent. I've stayed there twice and it has now become one of my favourite hotels. If only all hotels could be like this. A truly excellent place to stay.
