It Truly Is the Gateway to Machu Picchu!Very good value! Clean and well-maintained! $ 40/night included breakfast. Coco and Maria Luisa, who are in charge of the hotel, were charming and extremely helpful. Their breakfast was fresh and delicious. The hotel is located in Yucay, the capital of the Sacred Valley, which is only a 20-minute ride to the Ollantaytambo train station to Machu Picchu. It was only a 45- minute ride from the airport in Cuzco. The climate was ideal, much warmer than in Cuzco. Also, we did not suffer with altitude sickness while in the valley. Nearby, there 5-star hotels with excellent restaurants. We're so glad that our friends recommended this little gem to us.

Quaint, Quiet, & ConvenientWe had visited Peru a number of years ago and loved it. On this occasion, however, we decided to reserve a room in the warm comfort of the Sacred Valley and were not disappointed. We had many days with blue skies, temps in the mid-70's, and views of the emerald-green Andes capped with snow on some of the highest peaks. The quaint hotel we occupied was clean and well-maintained. Though a reflection of Spanish-colonial architecture, it was decorated with Peruvian art and handicrafts. Enlarged photos of Peruvian landscapes were mounted above beds covered with down comforters. Breakfast was served when we requested it at no charge by our amiable hosts, Maria Luisa and Coco. We were just a 20-minute taxi ride from the Machu Picchu train station in Ollantaytambo. Fresh fish from the Urubamba River were served "a la parilla"/grilled to perfection at many of the local restaurants. Many other communities of interest (Maras, Chinchero, Moray) were also easily accessible from our Gateway hotel. It was definitely worth staying in a more tranquil ambience, yet being so close to opportunities to hike, shop, visit ruins, and go horse-back riding in the Sacred Valley of the Inca.

Pictures won't do it justice! My best friend from College and I both wanted to take a big trip upon graduation, but didn't want to pay the big price tag that one would assume would come with visiting one of the seven wonders of the world (Machu Picchu). The friendliness of the staff, surrounding natural beauty, and the cost-effectiveness of this hotel more than made the trip for us. At no point did we feel unsafe or completely "off the grid". High-speed internet made it easy to communicate photos and videos of that day's adventures with home (Michigan, USA). From riding the Palomino Paso Horses of Peru through mountains, fine dining, pisco sours, local song and dance, train rides through the rain forest along the amazon river, and enough breathtaking views to last a lifetime - to say we were exhausted at the end of each day would be an understatement. Having both a safe and clean place to recuperate everynight made attacking the next day's activities more enjoyable and surely brought immesurable value to our trip!

Restful, Charming and CleanThe service offered by the staff at Gateway to Machu Picchu was incredible. My girlfriend and I felt very well taken care of as if we had family looking after us. The staff goes out of their way in making sure their guests feel at home. Our room and bathroom were clean and our bed was comfortable. The location is great for those who want to be in the Sacred Valley and minutes away from the train station that takes you to Machu Picchu. It's also a great place to stay if you want to be away from the heavily touristy areas and offers great cultural experiences in the nearby hill sides and and at the outdoor market. *You may be lucky enough to meet the local Yucay celebrities Patches and Rosy they are adorable llamas who belong to the owner of the hotel (Herbert) and travel down to Yucay from a local hillside village. They are adorable and Rosy is expecting soon!

Comfortable stay in a real gateway to Machu Picchu locationI traveled in Peru for a month and was recommended this hotel and it did not disappoint. I enjoyed it so much that I returned for a second stay later in my trip. This hotel served as our literal Gateway from Machu Picchu. After spending 4 days hiking the Inca Trail, the hotel was a great place to rest up and refresh before a few days of exploring the valley. The hotel itself is clean with a pretty decor that represents the Cusco region and other areas of Peru. There is a constant availability of tea and the breakfasts offered fresh bread, fruit and eggs. The location was ideal for its proximity to the Ollantaytambo ruins, the train station to travel to Machu Picchu and a number of other ruins and interesting communities in the mountains. We visited the huge and diverse market in Urubamba (a 5 minute drive from the hotel). The weaving town of Chinchero with its market and ruins is another accessible day trip. The hotel staff also offer local excursions which are well worth it for the authentic and immersive experience it provides and the great views. My boyfriend and I were taken by the hotel staff to visit the town of Raqchi up in the mountains surrounding the valley. We visited a beautiful viewpoint, met a local family from whom I bought a beautiful blanket, and then hiked down the mountain escorted by the llamas, Rosie and Patches! It was a great day trip that was one of the highlights of my trip!
