Good location and foodWe selected the room with the view of the Kusatsu Hot Spring in the middle of the town. The night display of light show at the hot spring was spectacular when viewed from the room. Dinner and breakfast hall was huge with lots of Japanese food to sample. The hotel also gave 500¥ coupon per person for purchases at the ground floor shop or offset the cost of alcoholic drinks at meal time. For purchases of more than 2000¥, the hotel would present a box of biscuits. The only issue is that there were only 3 hairdryers in the male onsen changing area for such a hugh establishment.

Service was lacking but facilities are generally okayI reached the hotel via self-drive and arrived at around 4pm. During the check-in process, I felt that they discriminated between local japanese guests and foreign guests as the service provided was very different. The japanese guests were brought to their rooms and luggage was also delivered directly to their rooms. However, we were left to ourselves to carry our own luggage out of the car and over to the room. No pleasantries by the reception was offered. Maybe the hotel can clarify was because we were staying in the annex wing? I have been to other ryokans and the luggage was always sent to our rooms and we were always briefed by the hotel staff on the facilities. I would expect better service given the price we paid for it. We had a dinner and breakfast meal plan. The food was only so-so. Interestingly ,the tv turns on by itself at 7am . Not sure who set the alarm but it came out by itself and scared my socks off. I think that for the price we paid, the service was lacking. I would venture out to try other hotels in the vicinity. Only convenience was that the in-house onsen was located at the annexe wing on the 3rd floor which was in the same block i stayed in. The hotel check out time was 10am and you could only keep your car there till 12pm. Honestly. if you are not strapped for location, try elsewhere. This hotel charges too high for the service it provides.

Very nice Ryokan "Japanese Style" Hotel. Great Osen (Japanese Hotspring)This was one of my favorite hotels in Japan. It was Japanese style (Ryokan) which means it's one large room with a floor mat (Reminded me of a Judo/Karate room). With 1 table and chairs (Very close to the ground.) at the time of your choice, the staff will come and move the table and make your bed(s). We had 2 beds, (Single futons) and they were very comfortable. The hotel has Male and Female (Separate) Osens (Japanese HotSprings) in the hotel. I think there might a mixed Onsen but I'm not certain, the signage wasn't very clear. There's a large gift store and liquor store in the hotel and it's right in the middle of town. We paid a bit more than average for Japan but this is probably because we were in an onsen town. I would recommend this hotel.

Nice stay at KusatsuThe hotel is just in front of and we booked the room with view. The hotel is not too new but the facilities are generally ok. The location is convenient with nearby to tourist spot, convenience store and souvenior store just at first floor of the hotel. We experienced good hospitality from hotel staff Mai-san. She is new to the hotel but she try her best to help us for our need. Will definitely return to hotwl ichii if we visit Kusatsu again.
