Modern hotel on the lake frontThis hotel is middle range in terms of amenities and services. Only one restaurant . Staff does not speak English Rooms are spacious but bathroom is small. Good WiFi. Average breakfast There are public baths in an adjacent building. A bit far from the main train station.

LackingOn check in we realised that the staff did not speak much English which we have no problem with however they knew we were English and when we got to our room all of the compendium was in Japanese as was all of the information on the coffee table. We asked the front counter if they had an English version but to no avail, they actually had to use google translate to understand what we were asking for. The staff seemed quite rude with everyone not just us. As we were having a snack the staff came in to put out our futon and make them up, just no communication at all. This is certainly been the only bad service we have had in Japan so really unfortunate

Beautiful view of Lake ShinjiNice hotel with convenient acess to the subway and bus. The room was very clean and spacious with a nice large clean bathroom. Very comfortable bed. We had a great view of Lake Shinji just across the highway. The staff was pleasant but spoke very little English. There are many places to eat near the hotel all within walking distances. We felt very safe walking at night. Overall a nice place to stay while seeing Matsue.

Great Lake ViewWe had a nice large room with a tatami mat area along the window overlooking the lake. The bathroom was typical Japanese with the toilet cubicle separate from the bathtub/shower wet room off the sink cubicle. I like that. The restaurant had a decent western/Japanese breakfast, not great though. Try the delicious vegetable jams. Our travel agent had booked dinner at the hotel restaurant for both evenings. The food was delicious and plentiful, very beautiful Japanese presentation and selection. They brought extra noodle dishes when they saw that my husband didn't touch the fish with the big eyes and fat lips. Matsue is not a center of international travel, so don't expect much English. One of the waiters spoke some. We did not use the spa, but many guests walked in the hotel with yukatas and slippers. A counter at the reception handed them out. We had a guide who picked us up in the morning in a taxi. There is much to see in the area which is much more laid back than the east coast centers.

Difficult to communicateNice enough hotel on the lake front (if you are fortunate enough to get a room lake side which I wasnt) but it was extremely difficult to sort issues out as the staff speak little or no English. Now I know I am in a foreign country but they are in the hospitality business and should be able to communicate in English. The room was a reasonable size but was on the 8th floor and had no internet but this was eventually resolved by them plugging in a dedicated router in the room. Breakfast was poor, no egg station which all our other hotels thus far have had and the scrambled eggs provided appeared to be made from powdered eggs. To drink in the bar requires a cover charge of ¥830 per person. We managed to get this waived the first night because the tiger was on duty. As a consequence around 40 of us drank in the bar. The following night they insisted on payment and no one stayed. Learn a lesson here.
