Centrally Located nice placeThis is a very convenient hotel, the rooms are cozy, the reception is helpful. Breakfast buffet is good, minimal selection. The first room we were given was too hot as we were in august, we had to pay extra for a one with air condition. I expected a bit better for the price.

Convenient LocationThe hotel is centrally located, within walking distance to the historical centre of the town. It's a bit hard to find but once there you are glad you found it. Parking costs 10 Euros a day if you choose to park the car at a private parking place which is only 300 meters away. However, you can also park right in front of the hotel at the parking site which has park meters. Though the night is free you need to get up early morning to feed the meter! We preferred the private parking place. Beware of speed limits. The town is very strict. We were only 8 kmh over the speed limit and got a ticket! The hotel is very pleasant and the reception exceptionally customer oriented and friendly. The room was rather large, yet tastefully decorated. The town itself is not very large but quaint.

Charged for Parking BicyclesExtremely disappointing to be a guest at this hotel and having to pay for parking bicycles in the hotel courtyard (non-functional area). Surely it would be encouraged to be cycling through these towns and not be charged for keeping your bike overnight on the property. These costs were not advertised on the website or at time of booking. We recently did a bike trip down the Rhine River (more touristy) and hotels were so welcoming of cyclists and ensured the bicycles were stored in safe places overnight at NO CHARGE!

HotI stayed in the Goldener Loewe for 2 nights in the middle of a heatwave, 35C in the afternoon. My room did not have any means of ventilation apart from opening the windows, which is not a good idea with those temperatures. Airco would be nice or even a fan. The room was quite large, decent bed and bathroom. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice, only the boiled eggs had run out at 9am. It is a lovely old hotel , central in Meissens old town.

Don't go to Dresden, go to Meissen! You probably consider going to Dresden. You know the bombed City with the restored Frauenkirche - well, don't! Go to the real beauty, the houses that hasn't been rebuilt because they havn't been destroyed, a small City that wasn't bombed at all during the war. Yes, Meissen - 20 kilometers north of overcrowed-with-tourist-Dresden. Here in Meissen lives 30.000 sachsens in a nice, quite fairytail-town with lots of restaurants, Germanys oldest Castle, the river Elben a glimpse away and of course a great Hotel: Goldener Löwe. That is where you should stay, and if you're lucky you get Room nr 103, a Junior Suite with a nice view to a square, a huge suite and a luxury bathroom. Included is a great breakfast with eggs and bacon, a lot of other good stuff - and sekt! The germans has got a great idea: lets drink sekt, sparkling wine, for breakfast! It makes the day so much better from the start :) The Hotel offers private (and paid) parking, we used it, but are not sure whether it was necessary. It is a very peacefull place. Goldener Löwe is placed in the absolute center of the little town and you can walk to anything: The museum for Meissen china (porcelain), the Castle and the Dome, the River Elb, and to all the good restaurants and cafés. But do bring your car and take on excursions in the countryside - it was here Casper David Friedrich, the great painter, was inspired for many of his best paintings. There is The Sachsien Switzerland, and there is a wineroute - they make a decent whitewine here. But forget about Dresden - and if you must go, and your probably must, then take only half a day and hurry back to Meissen...
