Rudest Hotelier I have ever metI stayed at the Hotel Gode Wind in Kiel from the 2nd 4th August 2006 and I have never met such an inhospitable hotelier in all my years of world travel. The booking had been made in advance but upon our arrival we were told that we had to pay for our rooms in advance, in cash. The landlady refused to take our credit cards and would not let us into our rooms until she had the cash in her hand. We were therefore forced to leave some of our party with our luggage and drive to the nearest ATM. Upon our return we were provided with our keys and I then discovered that the landlady has refused to allow my pregnant wife to use the toilet while she was waiting. The room itself was clean and functional and we have no complaints there apart from not having any hot water when we returned from the beach one afternoon. Breakfast was a typical European fayre of bread rolls, meats, cheeses etc but there was no place laid for my 2 year old daughter, nor any bread rolls for her. When we asked for additional rolls this was refused. One of our party also asked for an extra cup of tea one morning and was abruptly told You had one! before the landlady walked off. Needless to say the extra tea never did arrive. These may seem like minor points but the woman was so rude and abrupt I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. What kind of person demands cash before you can get access to your room and will not let a visibly pregnant woman use the toilet; does not provide simple bread rolls for children and an extra cup of tea for a paying guest.

Never againThe landlady was unfriendly from the start and things didn't get better. We had to pay cash in advance, which I found strange. The room itself was OK (if you like kitsch), and clean. The bathroom was tiny. Breakfast was a sombre affair with every counted out for each guest. No extras, even a further cup of coffee had to be paid for seperately. The slices of chees and cold cuts were counted out per person and the quality of the food was not really brilliant (bread somewhat dry, rolls hard, and the cheese and meat could have been a little fresher). There wasn't a lot to choose from. She kept shushing my three year old daughter during breakfast, even though we were alone in the breakfast room (which was also the reception) and my daughter was simply singing to herself, not overly loudly, either. The location, however, ist certainly very nice and the surroundings pleasantly quiet. But I'd rather take a different hotel next time. The value for money was simply bad and the lady simply too unfriendly.

Steer clear!!The Gode Wind Hotel seems pleasant enough from the outside. Once within its walls one is confronted with a landlady from hell. She demands payment up front, accepts no credit cards and hands out a hand written receipt on a shoddy piece of paper. During our stay she told us off - in the breakfast room - over some minor spillage. Her attide is best described as very hostile and rude. Breakfast itself is sparse. 2 rolls and a tiny pot of coffee each. Cold cuts, butter and marmalade is also rationed. Don't ask for extra's. You will be charged as nothing is complimentary. This hotel has every potential. The interior is glitzy - if you like that sort of thing - and spotless. It is located conveniently near the beach, public transport and major roads. If performance and service were to be brought up to acceptable standards I would certainly recommend this place. But for now; STEER CLEAR!

Surprisingly bad for GermanyThis hotel is situated quite some distance outside Kiel by a marina that was closing for the winter. The owner spoke German very quickly with a very strange accent and made no attempt to understand my German. He didn't try to understand a word of English or Dutch, but he understood cash upfront (no credit or debit cards). The room smelled musty but looked just clean enough. Everything in it seemed 30 years old. Breakfast was meager and consisted mostly of cheese and ham apparently salvaged from earlier guests' plates. It's the worst I've ever stayed in in Germany in this price range.

don't even consider this placeThe owner(elderly woman) was unreasonably rude, ignored the basic rules of hospitality. She does not speak or pretend not to understand English, even if you want a little help( a local call to car service) during heavy rain. The English understanding appeared only when there was a question about early check-out because of the bad service. Extremely unpleasant experience and the only one in Europe.
