Excellent overall but very gloomy rooms at night

Overall, we had a terrific week. The location, staff and food were outstanding. The room itself was very basic see my criticisms below but this was the pension, not the main hotel, so is to be expected, up to a point. Wed certainly be happy to return, for the location, food and service, along with Joker card for the lifts, buses and more. Our only criticism of the food is that it was often over-salted. Chefs forget that salt can be added at the table but not taken away. They wouldnt presume to know how much sugar I want in my coffee, so why do they think they know how much salt I want in my food? The rooms in the pension are compact but adequate about the size of a standard balcony cabin on a cruise ship. They are plain but clean and comfortable, although our beds (room 24) were squeaky. Theres only one pillow each soft, squidgy foam ones. I imagine extra pillows would be provided, on request. A small safe is installed in the wall, big enough for passports and phones but not things like iPads and laptops. Theres no fridge or a/c (and it was hot when we were there at the end of August). Our balcony was shared by four rooms (22-25). Still, thats much better than no balcony. All of those rooms and others alongside the street can suffer from early morning noise. The worst thing, for us, was the lighting. It made the room really gloomy and uninviting, not a place youd want to spend much time. All the lights are very weak and yellow. The bathroom was slightly brighter than the bedroom but still hopeless for shaving and make-up. Thats especially true since the mirror was recessed and behind a big basin, so you cant get at all close to it. The bulbs in the bedside lamps are 11W CFLs. Id guess the ceiling lights are the same. The hotel should replace all of them. Id suggest 5W LEDs which would be much brighter and provide a much more attractive light. The bulbs would almost certainly pay for themselves in a year, so theres no excuse for not replacing them immediately. The wi-fi drove me crazy. It works well when connected but you have to sign in every 24 hours. In fact, I often found I had to reconnect to the wi-fi several times per day, almost every time I woke my iPhone. Worse, with my Windows 10 laptop, I had to reboot every time I woke it from sleep, to get the login prompt to appear. Otherwise it would connect but with no internet. The network in the main hotel is completely separate, so you need to connect to that too, if using mobile devices (no sign-in needed for that one). For information rather than criticism, to help you decide what to pack, here are some things you might expect to find in a hotel that you wont find in Pension Silvester: tea/coffee-making facilities (no surprise its unusual to find them in Austria), hairdryer (can borrow one from reception), power sockets by the desk (theres one each side of the bed, also one in the bathroom (which wouldnt be allowed in the UK), clock, pen/pencil/paper. Wed take a travel kettle (and cups, etc.), hairdryer, make-up/shaving mirror, and multi-way extension lead with European plug or adapter, next time. And E27 LED bulbs for the bedside lights! Youll be spoiled for choice of walks. Our favourite short one, to fill a couple of hours, was from the top of the Reiterkogelbahn (the lift closest to the hotel). At the top, turn 60 degrees right and head for the (signposted) Reiteralm, a beautifully flower-bedecked mountain restaurant with terrific views. The area short of the Reiteralm is planted with flower beds to the right of the path and a Herbal Path to the left. Its a little over a mile each way with just over 100 metres ascent, and you pass a pretty little mountain lake on the way. Pick up a leaflet (in German) about the Herbal Path at the entrance to the path or (in better condition) as you exit the lift.

    Excellent visit

We took a week half board here and stayed in the pension Garni Silvester which is an annexe to the rear of the hotel. The room was fairly small and basic but clean and comfortable. The hotel itself was excellent. Good choice at breakfast, hot and cold food. Excellent four course lunch in the evening. The service, especially in the restaurant was friendly and efficient. We were even allowed to fill a ' doggy bag' after breakfast for our lunch. We were issued with a joker card which gave us free travel on buses (e.g. to Zell am See), cable cars and even on the mini golf. Hinterglemm/Saalbach area is a gem, beautiful views from the summits and the villages themselves are picture postcard. We took friends on their first mountain holiday and they were hooked. The hotel has an indoor pool on the fourth floor with a rooftop terrace. Altogether a week to be repeated.

    Fantastic

We have just had a great stay. Every guest is welcome in this wonderful family hotel, the food is great and it is so well placed. There is easy access to the slopes and to ski school meeting points. I would definitely recommend the spa (best massage ever!) Would I come back.....absolutely yes!

    Happy week in Hinterglemm

I can highly recommend this delightful and friendly four-star hotel if you are planning a stay in Hinterglemm. Our spacious and modern rooms (our small group was in a single and a double room) were incredibly comfortable with well equipped bathrooms. The restaurant is well run with cheerful and pro-active staff. Breakfast is a comprehensive buffet of hot and cold dishes, and the five-course dinner is a varying mix of buffets and choices of main dishes and other courses. The food was universally excellent. The small indoor pool and wellness centre on the fourth floor is splendid and all three of us took advantage of the complimentary massage which was part of our room package. I made our booking via emails direct to the hotel and all correspondence was replied to incredibly promptly and with great courtesy, and this was reflected in person when dealing with reception staff - Karola, Tamara and Stefan - during our stay. The hotel is slap in the centre of the village and a short walk to the main lift stations on each side of the valley. Hinterglemm is a lively, upbeat place with noisy bars but the sound-proofing in the bedrooms ensures undisturbed sleep. Ski equipment is stored in a huge ski room with key card controlled lockable lockers. The three of us had a wonderful stay in March 2020 and I would definitely stay here again when visiting Hinterglemm. I cannot praise the welcoming and friendly Glemmtalerhof highly enough.

    Fantastic hotel

We have visited The Glemmtalerhof for a number of years now and cant speak highly enough of it. We are always made to feel extremely welcome and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. We have stayed in a number of hotels in the area and this is by far our favourite. It is beautiful, warm, spotlessly clean and stylish. Great facilities including a large well equipped boot/bike room. The location of the hotel is fantastic for both summer and winter with very easy lift access. We look forward to returning again soon
