  tucked away gem

  Panarea spoils you for choice when it comes to accommodation, however the reviews of most of the places closer to the centre (the port area) mentioned something related to noise at night (albeit probably more relevant for August than July) which I didn't like. Also, the long walk between the port and the only sandy beach (Zimmari) had put me off staying in the village, so we decided to stay at Girasole, in the residential area of the island, 10 mins walk from town and another 10/15 mins from Zimmari. You'll find heels pretty pointless in panarea, anyway if you don't feel like walking there is a good (electric) taxi network that can drive you around. The hotel is split into 2 buildings, and our room was on the 1st floor of the sea-facing building, the other building being at the back, on the other side of the road. We didn't have a window on the sea but our door opened on the patio, and we decided to leave it open most of the time we were in, being the other 2 rooms on the same floor pretty quiet anyway. The view from the patio is amazing, so peaceful and hypnotising that you may find yourself not wanting to leave your room at all. The room itself was spacious and pretty simple, albeit very tastefully decorated, with a colourful blue and yellow bathroom, a safe and a noisy fridge we'd turn off every night. I would definitely reccomend il girasole for a romantic and soul soothing beach holiday. If you plan a clubbing holiday in panarea i'd probably suggest to stay closer to the buzz, not cause it's far from it, but because you would probably spoil the mood ..

  An idealic hideaway

  Rita was fantastic and always friendly and helpful. We had the room with the large balcony with views over the near by coastline. The room was basic and decorated well. Breakfast was great, homemade pastries and cakes. Ham and cheese toasties, expresso coffee and fresh orange jam. If your lucky you may encounter the hotel cat, whose is beautiful. There was a great beach to snorkel near by with huge grey peebles. A brisk walk to the port area where you can buy provisions from the local supermarket. Take a good torch for walking at night as it's pitch-dark. Complimentary golf buggy transfer to and from the port upon your arrival and departure. Take a pair of bins to look at passing boats, good fun.

  would not really call it a hotel

  very noisy rooms. the bathrooms are in desperate need of renovation. We even found two cockroaches scuttling around. the owners (mother and daughter) were pretty crazy and spent a lot of time shouting at each other and at the poor girl who worked there. Won't ever go there again!

  Excellent location, great hospitality, perfect place

  The hotel is based in a perfect place, next to the beaches and close to the arbour. At the same time is lost if you want to stay in relax, making the most out of Panarea. Great atmosphere, Rita is a great host. Highly recommended. Serena

  Serious Disappointment

  Rather than a proper hotel, this is really a house mismanaged by a volatile and disturbed mother and daughter team who are often shouting at each other, their neighbors and even their guests. The place is not well maintained and is not kept clean. The whole experience was draining and unpleasant.
