Very Nice Hotel but old forniture in our room (@ good price)I went for two nights with my wife in this hotel for the first time and I'm greatly satisfied on the overall. We did not come for ski but just to relax, so no judgment on the sport opportunity around, but definitely nice for relax. Everything perfectly clean and well maintained, only our room was relatively old and small, but with a lower price than other hotel in this Christmas period, we enjoyed all the facilities of the hotel, that is what we are looking for in a hotel, giving less importance to the room where we spend just the time to sleep. A special mention to the SPA and Massages services, complete with extremely kind girls and very professional, large rooms, sauna and all facilities available. Good food and service, even the afternoon selection was satisfactorily. I do definitely recommend this hotel.

Excellent and pleasant stay ... very nice addressWe have spent 4 days very pleasant in the Gallhaus Hotel. Very nice hotel, spacious rooms, very nice wellness and very good restaurant. Very professional and friendly employees. St Johan is a very nice area with a lot of summer activities. Everybody should enjoy holidays in Sud Tyrol ... and enjoy their stay at Hotel Gallhaus.

hotel from the 90sWe stayed here during our honeymoon travel for 3 nights. The first night we arrived in the evening, we checked in and got a room with a disgusting smell of urine just like in a plublic toilet which apparently came from the bathroom! We asked at the reception twice if we could get another room or upgrade the room because we are on our honeymoon and are not able to breath in the room without getting sick. They said there is nothing that they can do, but we could change it the next day. Thats what we did right away the next morning after breakfast. We went to the reception and got a new key after the cleaning lady got the room ready. The reason for the bad review is that the staff from the manager to cleaning ladies were aware of the problem but still assigned the room with this smell! Thats a no go. Also never got an apology for assigning this room to us. The breakfast and snack in the afernoon is good. A good selection but if the fresh fruit or something else is gone they don't have any for a refill. I asked one morning for more tomatoes and waitress brought me a cut up tomato which was moldy! It would be better to say that they are out of something instead of bringing me something inedible. The dinner is excellent with a good choice!! Also the service is very nice. The spa and outdoor area is nice and very relaxing.

Luxurious Mountain RetreatA beautiful traditional style hotel with modern finishings and all the little touches that make you want to come back and realise that the owners and staff really have thought of everything. We arrived here after a 4-5 hour drive from Milan. The check-in process was quick and efficient. I speak Italian but noted that at check-in the lady preferred speaking English, which is something I noted throughout the week. Everyone speaks very good English in the area, and often better than Italian. We were given our room keys (strangely quaint little plastic fobs) and some complimentary prosecco and orange juice vouchers for the bar for us and the kids. We made our way to our room, which was on the ground floor (room 401 strangely), which was attached to the dining area. I initially was worried about the noise, but we had no issues at all as the hotel is perfectly sound proofed all over. In fact the room was great as it was close to all the amenities (dining area), also used for afternoon snack, but more of that later, and the car park, which made it easy to load and unload the car, yet the room had glass doors overlooking the opposite direction. I later realised that the area we were in was seemingly the area for families with children, although we could not hear anyone else from our room. Our ROOM was very large. I was surprised by the spacious bathroom (with a toilet in a separate room), a full sized walk-in wardrobe/changing area with plenty of storage room, a huge double bed, a sofa bed for our 6 year old and a cot for our 3 year-old. The furniture was modern and new but nonetheless had that 'mountain' feel that we came for. The room seemed to have underfloor heating in the bathroom and was always cozy warm, and we really had plenty of room to use even when we were all lounging around in the room. The wooden floor in the rooms is both rustic and elegant which gives the room a warm feeling. The room was spotless when we arrived and was spotless every time we returned after it was cleaned. All 4 of us had bath gowns for the pool and spa area as well as slippers based on our ages/sizes. Nice touch. The room had a fridge to keep drinks cool also. There was a large TV in the room, with a few channels but we never really watch it. The SERVICE all round was excellent, the room service, the dining staff, reception, the bar and the pool spa area. BREAKFAST is a very plentiful buffet arrangement with all the traditional Alto Adige/Sud Tirol foods with cheeses and speck, but all the standard items you would expect. The quality of the produce, breads, jams, butters, etc. is exceptional. The buffet is fully stocked and you never have to wait for anything. It is also kept clean and tidy. I loved the raw honey tray that you often find in hotels, but with a great dispenser of three different types of honey that is so easy to use.You can order eggs and other items from the kitchen although this was not really advertised anywhere and it took me a couple of days to realise. DINNER for us was an all-inclusive arrangement, where we had to chose from a selection of 3 or 4 starters, 1st courses and 2nd courses presented to us at breakfast. DO NOT LET THIS TURN YOU OFF!!! The food in this hotel is truly on the best parts of what is an all-round top hotel. If you were to judge the hotel by the food, you could honestly be mistaken for thinking you were in a Michelin starred restaurant. the quality of the food, the presentation etc. really are spectacular. The chef obviously has gone above and beyond to select great recipes but also try to tantalise your taste buds with interesting flavours that you may not find elsewhere. Dinner is served between 7pm and 8pm if I am not mistaken, but better to get there for 7:30pm as they are very punctual. Our waitress was extremely polite and helped us in any way possible, which with small children is quite often! Although the hotel quite elegant, you do not feel out of place with young children, although you would be out of place if you allowed your kids to run around screaming. From 2pm onwards the breakfast area is used as a buffet snack area, with an interesting selection of sweet and savoury offerings to satisfy any palate and needs. This is particularly useful is you have been skiing in the morning and have come back to the hotel to chill in the pool. The hotel did not seem to serve lunch. The POOL/SPA area are on the lower level, with a large pool that is at the perfect temperature for both adults and kids. There are double doors that lead outside into the garden area where there is a nice warm jacuzzi so you can sit in the warm bubbly water surrounded by the cold wintery air. There are plenty of loungers by the pool to sit and relax. A door separates this from a quiet area with both sauna and steam room where no swimming costumes are premised. Again, here facilities are spotlessly clean and tidy, but most of all very quiet. There are many massage facilities and treatments on offer here at reasonable prices. I did not use the facilities although my wife went for a massage and the friends we were with also used the facilities and have nothing but good words to say. On the lower level there is a children's play area where a lady can look after your children from 1pm onwards to allo you to spend a little time in the facilities relaxing. Free tea and fruit are available in the lower floor area. The lower floor area is not underground, but leads onto a garden area. Outside there was also a children's play area with swings etc. which we did not use due to the snow and cold temperatures, but these looked modern and well looked after. We spent New Year's Eve at the hotel (arriving 4 days earlier and staying 3 days after), which was an elegant affair. A 10 course or so dinner was served, with a lottery that had many prizes to try and get most to win something, all afford by the hotel. The BAR area next to the entrance/reception is very well stocked and the bar staff will make any cocktail or serve any drink in style. They had a good selection of rhums and whiskeys to satisfy most palates. Check-out was simple and painless and the original quote was very close to what we paid as there are not really that many extras to add to your bill other than wine/beer during dinner and the spa services. We also did some skiing while at the hotel and there is a room to put wet gear to keep this out of your room and keep it clean. The local AREA has little to offer in terms of walking out in the evenings of the afternoons, but this is the case for the whole region really, where the villages are really along the road (that is not busy or noisy at all). If you enjoy skiing, the organisation is spectacular! You are given a FREE bus pass by the hotel when you arrive that lets you jump on any bus and go up or down the road from the hotel. The SKIBUS is every 30 or 60 mins however the local bus is much more frequent and stops in all the right places. The town down the road a few Km is called Campo Tures where you can go for a walk and find a few shops if you need skiing equipment, but for more selection go to Brunico, where there were also Christmas markets stalls. While in the area we went for a lovely snowy (and icy - careful) walk to see the waterfalls in the area, and visited a local castle too, with a very interesting guided tour, but check to make sure it is open before going. We also went on a sleigh ride organised by the hotel. This was very characteristic with pick-up right outside the hotel and after a short stretch on the road, the sleigh lifts its wheels and off you go on the snow pulled by two horses. Although this hotel is in Italy, you really feel like you are in Austria or Germany as German is the main language in the area for historical reasons. There are many guests in the area from all over Europe and everyone is made to feel welcome. Everything in the area is well organised for the tourist/traveller. We will be going back!
