Lovely one night stay at Futaba with service minded staff attending to our needs!

    - Very good location, can walk from Echigo-Yuzawa station to hotel in about 10 minutes. They povide free shuttle service ( in front of hotel but by Gala mountain service/not hotel service) to Gala Snow Mountain which takes about 10 minutes at a published schedule. We took the shuttle going there but walked back as it was a sunny afternoon and took us about 25 minutes. It's a nice walk with local scenery. -Very friendly service and could communicate in English! Thanks to Ms.Cheng at the reception and the bell boy who checked us in but we forget his name! Both speak very good English! Also during dinner and at check-out communication was fine! At check-in they also confirm your dinner time reservation as you need to pre-book. Breakfast is served between 7-9 am with buffetvstyle and frees eating. - The view from our room was nice with mountain view and we had a lucky pick as our room had a huge terrace with even a little snow on it...perfect for photo taking. - Dinner set-menu was ok served in a private room with great service. Breakfast buffet was ok with the essential western food items like fried eggs, bacon, toast etc.. - the room itself was clean in the living sleeping area and so was the shower area and outdoor hot tub...with views of the mountain...very nice! - The public onsen facilities are also very nice. They provide 2 baths on the 6th and 2 on the 7th floor each rotating between male/female hours based on schedule which is giving to you, and explained by the bell boy in your room upon check-in. For me the 6th floor was the best with outdoor onsen under trees with snow...it felt so good...wow! The bell boy also explains the dinner facilities, the Kimono attire, the bath towel set for the onsen and asked you if you have any allergies...well done! - Generally the hotel is a little old with its furniture, decorations and fittings. - The toilette cubicle in the room was a little smelly and the WC itself was very old - The private room for dinner was ok for its privacy but we felt like sitting ina box as no windows. - The dinner is well presented but if you have a real big appetite and cannot eat much local cuisine you may better get some snacks from the hotel shop (limited) or the Sven eleven nearby. - Value for money is from our opinion not so good as in most Royken Hotels in Japan. We paid for 22sqm Japanese style room 550.-$/one night. Ok, it includes breakfast and dinner but for whatbthe dinner was and the size of the room it is a bit pricy!

    Great Ryokan Experience

We visited Japan for Honeymoon on November 2017, and stay at this hotel to enjoy our first Ryokan Experience. Turn out it was our best experience so far in Japan. This Ryokan has four big onsen with different design and landscaping, make sure to check schedule to be able to experience all of their onsen facilities. At night, we had Japanese kaiseki dinner in a private room at 2nd floor. At that time, one of the staff give us a gift for our honeymoon (two bottles of Japanese wine) with a very nice traditional packaging, we appreciate it very much. Staff really attentive and you can feel all of them are very humble and welcoming all their guest eventhough you are not Japanese (during our stay, we are the only foreigner in the hotel). We Booked Japanese tatami room without outdoor bath, but was being upgraded to the one with outdoor bath. We are very happy and have a great experience staying in Futaba Hotel. I want to thank all of Futaba hotel staff for making our stay wonderful and memorable. We will definitely choose Futaba Hotel again when visited Yuzawa again.

Highly recommended, could be even better with some small improvements

Great location just far away from the train station to be completely quite, but close enough to walk there in a few minutes. The onsen spas go from fantastic to just OK: - 6th floor west side: fantastic: old style wooden roof in the indoor spa, a little grotto plus a jacuzzi and several smaller tubs to choose from outdoors. Beautiful views of the mountain side with pine trees and snow right up to the onsen. - 6th floor east side: good: laminated plastic roof in the indoor spa (not as enchanting as the west side), on the outdoor spa same view of the mountain side but spoiled by a few sheet metal fences (should be hidden behind a bamboo fence or something) - 7th floor: don't bother. The 'rotenburo' is just a small open area with views of the highway and the Shinkansen tracks. Stick to 6th floor. Similar story for the food - Dinner: fantastic: best Japanese food I've ever had, in good quantity for Western stomachs. Teenage kids did not care for some of the more exotic food and hotel provided kid's dinner with was very 'safe' kind of food (hamburger meat, noodles etc.) but still plentiful and delicious. - Breakfast: we did not bother getting out of bed after the first day. Uninspired buffet of eggs, bacon, bread, juice and coffee; typical Japanese fare also (seaweed, soup, rice etc.) The food quality was so different from dinner that it seemed like we were in a different hotel. A negative note is that in any hotel where meals are prepaid, the hotel should offer as a matter of course a lunch box if guests notify ahead that they cannot attend the fixed meal time. In my surprise the hotel not only did not offer lunch box when we told them the day before that we could not make breakfast time, they politely refused to provide one. It's not like we did not pay top dollar for it! Anyways the local 7-11 was happy to feed us. We were in Japanese style tatami room, room was OK if juuust a little tired (minor scuffs on some shoji doors, tatami mats looking a little tired here and there). Not really a problem, just don't expect the Hyatt. A big plus is that they had English and Mandarin speaking staff, very fluent and very helpful. Wifi was OK in our room, although he hotel website said that wifi was available only in public areas. Overall we had a great stay.

    Great stay

Overall a great stay wonderful service, amazing baths, and delicious food. Would definitely recommend, especially for the price. A note for foreigners: you should wear your yukata to the baths and to the restaurant. And try the baths!

    Brilliant stay

Lovely hotel with beautiful onsens on 2 different floors. We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. The service was impeccable and they will try to accommodate our requests to the best of their abilities. Buffet breakfasts and Kaiseki dinners were amazing as well, lots of variety. Turndown service will take place while we were out for dinner, there were tea sets provided in the room, together with hot water as well as Yuzawa mountain water for your enjoyment! Definitely do check out the onsens. A day of skiing out in the mountains, and coming back to the onsens was absolutely fantastic. Shuttle service provided to Echigo Yuzawa station. You can also go to the Visitor Center at the train station and get them to help you call the hotel for a pick up. Highly recommended!
