Unbelievable kindness! Our 4th visit to Madesimo, staying with Monica and Nanni at Hotel Ferre. Following an accident involving ambulances and hospital, Monica arranged for my things to be brought to the hospital......and Nanni kindly collected me later - a very welcome sight for sore eyes! Recuperation at Hotel Ferre couldn't have been better - including a pair of crutches Monica magicked up from somewhere. Nanni organised snowboarding lessons for my son (13) whilst I enjoyed all the superb hospitality and gorgeous homemade food of the hotel. Even though it was a week before Christmas, we had our own Christmas celebrations which were lovely. Thank you! even though the snow did not come in great quantities the skiing/snowboarding was excellent. With people always willing to help you with your technique.(Rory)

Pros - but mainly consFrom the reviews I have read, this hotel has clearly built up a loyal following - and there are some pros: the location, only 100m from the gondola (but there are two other hotels that are closer), free wifi in public areas (but not in the rooms), a heated ski and boot room inside the hotel (a real plus), helpful owners (but no more so than any other establishment), and a plentiful and powerful supply of hot water from an unpromising-looking shower head. The cons for me - limited breakfast with no variety day-to-day, and a bedroom from the land that time forgot - beyond dated. It was warm (mostly) but had no other redeeming features. I wish I could say it was spotlessly clean - but it wasn't. If you want a crash-pad then this may suit, but if you want any level of comfort then this is not the place for you.

Excellent hotel and ski resortJust returned from our eight holiday in Madesimo, staying at the Hotel Ferre, with Monica and Nanni. Monica arranges our taxi transfer from the airport along with giving us details of the best value ski hire. Nanni is also a great ski instructor and provides us with lessons to help improve our skills on the slopes. Madesimo itself is a quiet resort with some great pistes. The Ferre is a very comfortable hotel, we went half-board and enjoyed every meal. We have also been to several top hotels in Switzerland and Austria but continue to return to the Ferre / Madesimo because everyone makes you feel very welcome.

A gem of a hotel in the Beautiful MountainsTo review Hotel Ferre, you must review from start to finish. On arrival there is plenty of parking in the village, off load your luggage outside the hotel, then park either outside the hotel, or a short walk away in the main car park. All free. The welcome on arrival is warm, friendly and inviting. Your room is a short walk or lift away. You will be met with a safe and secure room, with its own mini safe and double lock door. The bathroom is spacious and comes with the necessities of a hair dryer and toothbrush /shaver plug socket. Plus additional lighting. There is a TV in the room offering Sky TV and also a direct dial telephone. Plenty of hot water and a warm room The wardrobe is spacious with plenty of hangers and storage space as does the cupboard. You are sure to have a great nights sleep on the large beds, ready to start the day. Waking up to a view of the village or mountain is a great way to begin any day. Breakfast is a great choice of meats, cheese, jams, cereal, croissant, rolls, eggs and yoghurt with tea, coffee, juice or hot chocolate. A great way to start your day. There is a large kit room to safety store your skis and boots. A great games room down stairs for all to enjoy includes table tennis and so much more. There is a TV room with toys for the kids as well as plenty of books for the adults. A nice way to relax after a busy day on the slopes. Just five minute walk to either the gondola or the nursery slope with certainly get you off to a flying start. There is a great bar offering all types of drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic for all tastes .A lovely atmosphere and family friendly. There is a choice of three menus for evening meal, if there is still nothing you like, then the hotel is happy to accommodate you. The meals are ample, varied and high quality. The hotel manager is a really useful source of information both locally as well as regionally for trips further afield. Chiavenna is a short bus trip away. If you need them, there are chemists and a Dr a short walk away, all speak superb English Supermarkets perfectly equipped for all you will need are a few minutes walk away and a fabulous shop attached to the hotel offers a great souvenir or quality outfit / gift to take home. Sport Ferre. The hotel offers ski lessons for those that require them. Check out is smooth and seamless, major credit cards and cash accepted. I would most certainly suggest the Hotel Ferre to all ski / mountain lovers looking for a wonderfully family run hotel, suitable for all ages.

My first time in Madesimo and will definitely returnThis was our visit to Madesimo and the Hotel Ferre, even though my parents have been coming here for 30 years. On arrival we were greeted warmly and shown to our rooms. The rooms are comfortable, clean and have everything you need for a weeks ski holiday. It was a short stroll to hire skis, boots and helmet and the boot room at Hotel Ferre was spacious, clean and most importantly not wet. The food was delicious. Huge portions but we could vary so we often had 2 starters instead of a starter and a main. Veronica and Francesca were excellent hosts, always going that extra mile to make our stay perfect. They even went out and brought a spirit that my husband liked. In general the people of Madesimo were so friendly and accommodating, we will definitely return to Hotel Ferre and can't wait for next year.
