  Excellent position, easy wander into Malcesine. Very clean, staff were very friendly. Quirky head waiter, who appealed to my Yorkshire directness. Room (at front) was dated, air conditioning too. Food was average, at best, We didnt have an option for B and B. Plentiful excellent restaurants close by. Malcesine is lovely but busy. Needs a facelift and better cuisine!

  Disappointment Hotel Excelsior

  Position of Hotel Excelsior on Lake Garda Malcesine 4 star perfect spot , we were half board the food was less than1 star very disappointing , tinned vegetables tinned fruit no fresh fruit offered all week , under cooked pork no alternative offered , hardly any choice of sweet apart from ice cream , breakfast no choice the same dried up bacon and eggs every day and the manor of the miserable unhelpful waiting staff (older men) left a lot to be desired.

  Good location , However ... dated rooms tired decor , we were recommended this hotel by citalia , the food was terrible ! Awful ! Mostly inedible ! Nothing was done about this despite numerous complaints! It is disgusting for paying guests to be treated this way , The owner had the cheek to say well its the end of the season Which was so insulting & this hotel shall be remembered for all the wrong reasons ! P s the older male waiters are rude ! Which did not appeal To our Hertfordshire directness ! I award this hotel no stars ! End of season NOT REFLECTED IN PRICE Mini bar what mini bar!!   I want this hotel to get good restaurant reviews

  No one can dispute the location, it is amazing. Cleanliness excellent. However reading all the reviews the restaurant is failing. By all means reserve enough terrace tables for lake view residents. But open up the other tables for all. It may even encourage passing trade. Dont make guests feel inferior. Get a decent chef and do not insult the guests who have discerning palates with insults and excuses. Fresh fruit and veg is amazing in Italy ... get some. I keep returning purely because of location. But I want good food and great reviews

  Let me return !!

  We have stayed at this hotel nearly every year for the last 10 years, the first year we visited the food was wonderful and our daughter had her wedding reception at the hotel, a 9 course meal which was stunning and still spoken about by our guests. We have since returned each year and the food has deteriorated with each visit, in 2018 there was an improvement in the food under the new management, so we again booked for 2019 hoping that this improvement had continued. However these hopes were dashed, the food we received in 2019 was the worst ever, no thought seems to be given over whether the vegetables go with the main course, for example a delicate white fish with brussel sprouts ! The vegetables were usually over cooked often frozen and repetitive small portions. There was a limited choice for the main course as there tended to be at least 2 veal options, the pasta course was usually enjoyable except the night we were served empty prawn shells mixed in the pasta - I am not joking.Even the waitresses were embarrassed when they had to recite the dessert menu each night - ice cream, ice cream with fruit salad, semi freddo. Breakfast has also got worse, compared to other hotels there has always been a limited choice but you could at least get freshly cooked eggs - boiled , fried , scrambled, omelettes and bacon, but now you just get dried up fried eggs and bacon in warming dishes. We love this hotel and wish to return each year, however, unless the food improves we don't think we will be able to, it is one of the most expensive hotels in Malcesine the position is wonderful but it has to offer guests more than just location, for the first time in 2019 they also introduced a 7 day menu which meant that in our second week the food was repeated, we have never experienced this before and we have been taking 2 week holidays for over 40 years. I raised this with our rep. who was told we could chose something different. Please Hotel Excelsior Bay improve your kitchens we really do want to return and we are not the only ones with this problem, read your reviews plus during our 2019 stay numerous guests ate in the hotel a couple of times and then eat out for the rest of their stay. You are a 4* hotel please live up to that rating.
