Great value for money, clean decent hotel

Very good value for money, we paid 105 euros per night in mid-August, which is an excellent price for an hotel so close to the beach! Hotel is a bit older but is spotlessly clean. The room had airco which worked fine. Decent size room. Beds are comfortable, there is a small tv with an international selection of channels. About one block from the beach (3 minute walk). Breakfast (not included, but fair price at 8 eruos) was simple but good, croissants were delicious. Would have liked nutella as the breakfast (we're in France!) :) Owner speaks limited English but is very friendly. Parking is free at the hotel parking lot. Plenty of free parking around as well. If you're not looking for too much luxury but a clean, affordable hotel next to the beach, this is the one for you. The cons: Only one pillow on each bed. There was one additional pillow in the closet but it would have been great to have another one. Seat on toilet was loose (room 109). Not related to the hotel but we (young couple) were not ecstatic about Canet. It edges towards mass tourism. If you're a family with children this is fine as there is a lot to do, but we prefer the smaller villages around.

    Friendly & clean

We stayed at the Hotel du Port last summer and were very pleased with the experience. We were visiting family in Perpignan, but stayed in Canet for four nights, so that we could enjoy the beach life as well. The hotel has only a three star rating, probably not because it's not a comfortable little hotel to stay at but rather because it's a bit "old fashioned" in the sense that it has no wi-fi etc. The keys are regular old type of french hotel keys (rather than "smart cards") and you hand it in at reception when you go our for the day (like in the olden days). The hotel is family owned and the couple that runs it are really lovely and genuine people. The room was average size, clean and comfortable. There is a lift. We were on the 3rd floor, as I recall. We had a tiny balcony with a bit of sea view. On the Bastille day/July 14th we had a perfect view of the fire works from there. Canet as a whole was, mostly, pretty and relaxed. There were plenty of things for children to do and our, then, 5-year old enjoyed himself at the fun fair and "adventure" play grounds on the beach (for a small fee). We used one of the private beaches - which was nice. VERY windy on the beach, with quite a fee lady birds blowing in because of the wind. Aldo, red flag (i e no swimming/danger) a couple of days. It wasm't difficult to find good restaurants for lunch and dinner and we also had lunch at "our" beach restaurant - which was nice. The hotel breakfast was fine and the staff friendly. Hotel du Port has a friendly (in a polite and warm French way) atmosphere and I could definitely stay there again.

Friendly welcome, private parking, clean room and great location

Plenty of room to park in the hotel car park - friendly welcome and service - couldn't do enough for us - great buffet breakfast served with a smile, Clean room with TV, hairdryer and comfy beds and a great location between the beach and marina. A great place for a weekend recharge - will be going again. Recommended. Also welcome dogs.

Don't stay here. I repeat don't stay here. You will be disappointed

We are very used to staying in budget hotels. This is below any budget. Manager / owner was rude unhelpful and condescending. We queried the toilet not flushing and bidet not working, he was very defensive and rude, he did offer to fix the toilet after us insisting, he also stated that due to us being English we are not used to bidets so it should not bother us. Room was tired and dirty, hotel was tired and dirty. Restaurant was closed and no explanation given. I would sack this man and employ a five year old who would automatically raise the standard. It ruined what should have been a nice stopover. No wifi ......if his name was Basil that would explain a lot. Please avoid. Not good.

    Perfect location

We were a group of 56 people in 28 vintage cars. We stayed 5 nights and had breakfast and dinner there every day. The personel went out of their way to serve us, with big smiles. They were there early morning till late night and always friendly - cannot praise them enough. The dinners were delicious and varied every day. The only fly in the ointment: the breakfast buffet is really not good enough; only baguette, no toasted bread or bichottes, fruit salad out of a tin etc etc - it wouldnt take much to upgrade this !
