brilliant serviceWe booked this as a budget stopover between Caen and Perigueux. The hotel is newly refurbished, very clean and stylish. We got a good night's sleep as the location is very quiet and the beds comfortable. The Portuguese influenced restaurant was good value. What made this hotel stand out though was the proprietor's assistance with our car, which had developed a tyre problem. On a bank holiday weekend, even our breakdown cover was less than helpful. The proprietor, who has excellent English, took charge of the problem, locating local garages which might be open, phoning them for us, and accompanying me to a tyre specialist the next morning. Fortunately, the problem was resolved, but that did not diminish our appreciation of M.Bonnot's kindness, which was well above the normal assistance you'd expect from a hotelier. We thoroughly recommend Hotel Grill du Lac

No frills, dog friendly, good foodThe room is perfectly ok for the price. You can park in front of the hotel which is just off the motorway and round the corner from an excellent supermarket, ideal if returning to the UK. Our dog was allowed in the room ( no charge) and restaurant but not in the breakfast room which is quite small. There is a large park opposite perfect for the dog - on the lead. Also lots of children's play areas. We found the staff helpful and professional. The receptionist joined the waiting staff at 730 and you must use a code to get in after that. No problem at all. Free wifi which was a bit variable in strength. The bistro is also no frills, and the menu is limited, but we had a meal carefully cooked from fresh ingredients. Good meat, vegetables, bread, wine and cheese. Service very competent. Wine only by the bottle, it would be nice if they offered a couple of wines by the glass. We also had a very decent breakfast for a fair price. I recommend this for an unpretentious stop with real food. And for dog owners.

Good location for dog ownersWe stopped here on the way down to SW France. We had our dog with us and it was in a really good location as just across the road was a lovely, large lake and park which was ideal for dog walking. The hotel is fairly basic but the room was comfortable enough and there was plenty of parking, both front and back of the hotel. The restaurant attached to the hotel was surprisingly good, although the menu was limited. Think it was a separate enterprise to the hotel but I'm not sure. However, after a long journey, it was really nice not having to go and look for somewhere else to eat and I would recommend it. The breakfast is not served in the restaurant and I thought this was a bit overpriced but not unusual for France. Overall I thought this hotel was pretty good but unlike some reviewers I didn't think it was particularly cheap. Reasonable but not good value for money
