  Ok, if you smoke

  I spent two nights there for business. The location is great, and convenient to walk or run and see the area. The problem for me is that I do not smoke. Even though I had a non-smoking room, the room, hallways, entrance etc. really had a strong smoke odor. The staff was very nice and polite, and the room size was typical for the area. I think back in its day, this may have very well been a fine property, but it could use some updating.

  Close to everything

  Hotel staff was nice but little to no English. The hotel itself is in a good location. Close to restaurants, malls, train stations just about everything. The rooms where clean, a little small but overall not bad

  Great location

  We travelled to Japan in April/May of this year to visit our son and our last stay over before we travelled to Tokyo was in Kitakyushu at the Crown Palais. The hotel is a little off the beaten track, but we were able to walk to Hakata railway station and the market area. There was a small mall across the street, which was handy, as well as a 7-11 where we bought coffee every morning. The hotel is clean but I must admit, the beds were a little uncomfortable. Since it was Golden week, we were glad we were able to book a room in short notice.

  restaurant service

  COELIAC MEAL on 1st November requiring a special diet whilst travelling with a group I was very surprised when the chef removed my set meal and after discussion prepared a fresh meal for me. The care and effort he went to was beyond my expectations. As a result I had an excellent meal and was able to eat everything provided with full assurance that it had not been contaminated in any way. It should be noted that this happened when there were two tour parties of people being fed at the same time.

  A hotel that improved impressively since my last stay

  My wife and I use this hotel when we visit her parents. We also use Nishitetsu Inn and Comfort hotel. Crown Palais is further away from Kurosaki railway station than the other two hotels I mentioned, at about 15 minutes walking distance, but bus station is right in front of it. Services are good and everyone is polite, Japan being well known for that. Nobody seems to know much English. Thats not a problem though when having a Japanese wife like I have or when traveling with a Japanese friend. Rooms have different names but are basically of two sizes: 16 sqm and 24 sqm. Prices are per person, not per room, as its usual in Japan. That means that a double room of 5000¥ per night (depending on where and how you reserve it) will be actually 10000¥ if you book it for 2 persons. Food got much better since our last stay. There are many eat out options few hundred meters away from the hotel, which you should check. Breakfast buffet in the hotel costs 1200 yen for guest and 1500 per visitor and I was really impressed of the improvement since our last stay. Bread and pastries are made while breakfast is served and you can have them fresh and warm. Im uploading a picture with part of the breakfast my wife and I are having while Im writing this review.
