  Loved it

  We booked through Turihab (Solares of Portugal) and spent two nights in Casa dos Lagos before going to Porto. First of all, the location is very good if you have your own car, you can see the whole valley (Braga) from the Casa and you are within WALKING distance to the amazing baroque stairway of the Bom Jesus. We were so lucky to be there when there were no other guests, so we stayed in the "little house" as the owner called it. This is actually a full-equipped mini-apartment with living room/kitchen, fridge, tv, and a spacious bedroom with wardrobe. Rustic decor and a wonderful view. Beside the little house is a little swimming pool WITH valley view (no words to describe it - take a look at that picture). We also made a one-day trip to Guimaraes, and if you like shopping, Bragashopping Shopping Mall is 10 mins by car. Our stay in the little house was pleasant and we were treated really nice by the owner, Mrs Andrelina. Breakfast also was great, inside the living room of her amazing mansion. Payment was taken care of by Turihab, so there was no need for banknotes and the like. It was paradise for us: a wonderful memory!

  Great views! I loved this place!

  I loved this place! And I loved the owner, Andrelina Barbarosa, who was there to assist us every time and gave us a tour of the beautiful gardens that go all the way down the hill to Braga. We stayed in the big room, which has fantastic views over Braga and the valley. The room was really spacious and the traditional furniture and traditional blue-tiled-bathroom were just amazing. The room had also access to the gallery on the side of the house which was designed by Gustave Eiffel, as the old owners of this mansion (some viscounts) were very good friends of his. The house is located 5 minutes drive up the hill from Braga town centre, and within 2 minutes walk from the Bom Jesus church, which has the most impressive staircase you could imagine. Andrelina also recommended a restaurant nearby called Portico, which was fantastic. It was the best meal we had in 5 days in Portugal. I recommend the monkfish and king (and I mean KING) prawn espetada (on a skewer). It was just fabulous! My partner had the roast kid (cabrito) and he really loved it too!

  charming but (to expencive) place

  Casa dos Lagos is not located in Braga but 7 km out of town in Bom Jesus (3 minute walk from the well know Church.) A lot of traffic comes by (even late at night). The house is situated next to the road. The B&B is run by a friendly older woman. The apartment we rented was located on the first floor. The tiny balcony was beautiful to sit and watch out over the hills (and all the new buildings around Braga!). Living in the apartment is like being set back 40 years. Classic furniture and small double beds. A couple of things to keep in mind. It's a pity that the WIFI connection in the appartmentbuilding is very poor or even not available. On the website is indicated that there is WIFI in the common rooms. This is not in the appartmentbuilding. You have to go to the house of the owner next to the appartements (you can sit in the living room in the howners house). Although the apartment we rented was ment for 4 people there is a boiler that heats water for only one person. Casa dos Lagos is a charming and clean place but could use some investments to match with modern standards. Now its to expencive!

  I doubted to give it a "terrible" instead of a "poor"

  The rooms were extremely old style, not too clean, had a few big bugs, Booking.com didn't tell me we (5 people in 2 rooms) had to share one bathroom (wich also held the toilet) that was connected to both rooms, nor that we had to pay cash, the wifi was not working, the atmosphere was extremely musty....But the lady-owner tried so hard to make us comfortable and almost everything in the breakfast was homemade and the view so great that I do feel better about this hotel.

  A great experience

  We spent one night at Mrs Andrealina's house. It was a great experience, the house is really beautiful (she lives here) with a swimming pool and with clean and spacious rooms. We were located in the house at the ground floor, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a livingroom: it can be also used for longer stay (there is also a kitchen). Not in the city center (is 7km from Braga) but with a fantastic landscape. Mrs Andrealina is a marvellous guest! Don't miss her tales on the house!
