Fabulous family-run hotelWe stayed for a week at the beginning of August and found hotel staff very friendly. Rooms were clean and well-appointed (we particularly appreciated the air-conditioning!). Great food of an evening and a lovely wide variety of breakfast goodies!

Best hotel in Sardinia!Thank you for our wonderful stay at Hotel Baja Azzurra. The best hotel in Sardinia! Hotel Baja Azzurra has lovely, friendly staff at reception and the bar, thank you for your care and kindness. Cocktails and limoncello at the bar, delicious and varied breakfast every day, including fresh figs and produce from the garden and amazing coffee, thank you breakfast team! The hotel has one of the top restaurants in Sardinia, Shardana for evening meals, what a treat on the last night, thank you for serving us so well. The hotel has the most peaceful and beautiful garden, thank you to the brilliant gardener, we loved lounging between the olive trees and swims in solitude in the gorgeous cool pool. We enjoyed tennis on the court, played board games in the evening. Short walk to the beach, had gelato and snorkelled near the Torre in the clear water and had a day on the hotel beach loungers, thank you Francesco. Enjoyed picnic lunches from the mini market next door (prosciutto every day! Delicious!) and evening meals at beach cafes nearby: Sard Cafe, Sa Tracca (our favourite), Chiosco Baya Marina and Su Zilleri. Hired a car at Olbia airport and loved driving through the mountains to get to the hotel. Amazing views! We also enjoyed going north to the red rocks of Arbatax, Beach dOrri, Foxi, Cea for snorkelling. Barì Sardo for more gelato. Also trips south for our most memorable meal (massive amount of delicious local food!) at nearby rustic farm Agriturismo Siligi, incredible! A must! Our other highlights were climbing to the top of Mount Arista (and seeing Domus de Janas on our way down, having a well deserved treat seafood lunch at restaurant Mirage on the beach opposite). Also snorkelling wherever we could, but particularly at Su Sirboni beach (a small trek over rocks to get there). Watching the sun go down at Cala Surya cafe afterwards (just along the cliff road from the beach). The hotel was incredibly clean, quiet and friendly (our big comfy bed made for us every day, what a treat! Air conditioning in the room was also brilliant, and the rooms fridge for our picnic stuff) so thank you to the wonderful cleaning ladies who always greeted us with smiles. Our room was by the road but this didnt bother us. Other rooms have balconies and private areas outside. To make the most of the hotel and the Ogliastra area, I advise you bring beach towels, snorkel stuff, hiking trainers, tennis gear, books, small cool bag (if youre going to picnic) and swimwear! The hotel provides tennis rackets and balls (also has table tennis and table football) and has beach umbrellas and loungers you can borrow. Most beaches also have volleyball nets up that you can use. Wonderful location to get away from the crowds. Some beaches were busy but we could always find a little cove to ourselves. In our week we didnt hear one native English voice, mainly Italian and German tourists. We will remember our 10th wedding anniversary holiday (second honeymoon!) with the fondest of memories, it was perfect, thank you Hotel Baja Azzurra!

Very nice family-run hotel close to the beach. This is a family run hotel. The staff is really nice and the location is really great (8-minute walk to the beach). There is a big pool surrounded by a lovely garden, with a lot of lounge chairs available. The breakfast is very nice (eggs, bacon, fruits, vegetables, various breads, fruit juices). Two minor downsides : the restaurant is not open for lunch, but there are snacks available. Also, the satellite-based internet connection is not *that* great, but works. I suggest you buy a cheap Vodafone 4G sim card (20 for 50GB !). The hotel is at a 2-hour drive from the Cagliari airport. I think there is another airport closer (for domestic flights only, I think). Renting a car is a must because the taxi transfer costs more than 200. The roads are very scenic and the price you pay by being far from the airport means the area is still very wild and not tourist-ridden at all. Mostly native people (at least Italian speaking) on the beach. A/C works perfectly and rooms are well-equipped. We chose one with a balcony. The only minor downside would be the cleaning ladies sometimes chatting rather loudly at 7AM :) (it happened from time to time) For a three-star hotel, we were pleasantly surprised. You won't get fancy designer furniture or bathroom amenities, but everything is clean and functional. WIFI reception in the rooms is so so, but as mentioned above, if you buy a vodafone sim card, you're all set (do NOT buy Wind, TIM or Tree sim cards (the other operators) because you won't get 4G in the hotel with those). Staff is very nice and our many requests were accommodated in no time :) (transfers, reservations...) The dinner restaurant (Shardana) is not cheap but is really high end. We ate there several times and were totally satisfied. Kudos to the chef! The restaurant is more like five stars. This area of Sardinia is less crowded than other places. You *must* do a cruise to visit the various secluded beaches. Bikes are supplied by the hotel and the coast is rather wild and beautiful to see (not many hotels and restaurants on the beach, thankfully). Renting a car is a must (no taxi service in the nearby town of Bari Sardo)
