Great!Very nice people, wonderful wine, great location! When we were there, the weather was great and we could sit outside, with a bottle of wine and 'charcuterie & fromage'. It was just great! There also was a kind of library with (a.o.?) detective-novels, wonderful!

Return tripIt has been two years since we last visited here. It was like stopping by to see an old friend. We recognized and were recognized by the staff. We were given the "Chambertin" room which we had last time. It is a nice size room with windows overlooking a garden area. They offered to make dinner reservations for us but we had already made reservations months ago. Parking is easy.

Making you feel unwelcome with a false smile and empty wordsFor the short version - the people here are rude, unprofessional and unfriendly. Here is the longer version. When we arrived, after a 5 hour drive with 2 children, the lady came out and asked us to move the car as she said it was blocking the path to the garden. It wasn't actually, but I moved it anyway. It seemed like nothing but it set the tone for the rest of our stay. When I got inside my husband was checking in, and had asked about the charcuterie which they say they can provide (I had emailed them a week or so earlier to ask about this, or for recommendations for suitable restaurants but they had not replied). The woman was most put out by this and said that we should have told her in advance. If we wanted it we should have ordered it and now she would have to send someone out to the supermarket (a couple of doors down) to buy some. We asked if we could reflect on it and get the kids into the room to use the loo. She was annoyed about this too. The room was not what we were expecting - two double beds in a family room which was not the configuration we had seen on the site we booked on (and would make for a sleepless night for our particular kids). I expressed surprise but she said it wasn't possible, it must be my mistake and there was no other possibility. We said we would manage. Later we asked for recommendations for somewhere to taste wine. This was, after all, Gevrey-Chambertin. We also asked for restaurant advice. We were advised to go just next door to a big wine warehouse for wine. In the end they couldn't do a tasting, but quite honestly we were glad as it was absolutely not the kind of place to get a good and well informed overview of the local wines. The restaurant she recommended, which we ate at in the end was overpriced. Use some other form of recommendation, I suggest. When we came back in around 10pm the woman greeted us and asked us to be sure to be quiet as other guests were already sleeping. We really were not a noisy group, but the feeling that we were an imposition continued. At breakfast, which was fine, some of our party (of 8) were already seated. The lady asked "What drink can I serve you" and when I said tea she lifted to a jug of hot water that had been served 10 minutes ago to my sister-in-law and said there was still some in there, teabags on the table. Not wanting cold badly brewed tea, I said I'd have coffee instead. She shook my brother-in-law's coffee jug. Still some in that. So all sorted then. For 12 euros I'd expect a hot fresh drink. But no. When one of our children put the fruit juice down on the (regular, wooden) table she was there in a flash to put it back on the coaster. Still with a smile. Still making us feel like nothing but trouble. When checking out I queried that we were charged for 3 adult breakfasts and 1 child, since we were 2 adults and two children. It is true my 12 year old is tall. But I was told - the big one is what, 14, 15? She eats as much as an adult. Very rudely. I asked - what age does your child breakfast go up to, out of interest? Eight, apparently, (although I think they made that up on the spot). But all of this pales into insignificance given the discussion I had with woman number two on departing. She was there for the checkout and had heard that I had been unhappy with two double beds. I told her not to worry, we managed, but no, she wanted to point out clearly that I had been mistaken. She had the paperwork from the booking website that showed clearly that the beds were double. I don't have that, I told her. But of course you do, she said. (This all took place in French, by the way, in which I and my family, kids included, are fluent). No, I really don't, I said. Yes, of course you must. No, I really don't. My confirmation only says a quad room. But I can show you your entry on the booking website for a quadruple room, here, look, see how it doesn't say two double beds? She took my phone off me and scrolled through it. Well, she said, that's the booking website not us. You might want to think about correcting it, I suggested, and not immediately accusing your clients of being mistaken. But you were mistaken, she said, and the booking website is nothing to do with us. Suffice to say that this discussion went on for some time, all the while with a smile and what she called a 'calm voice'. You can be VERY rude while smiling and speaking softly, quite frankly. In the end I paid for our room, and the breakfasts and went outside while my brother in law paid for his family's room. He had to query his bill as the credit card terminal was one euro higher than the paper bill. There's a mistake, he said. No, the woman told him, it's fine. No, he said, the charge on the card machine is 1 too high. Well, the woman said, your sister in law paid 1 too little. What? Apparently they had made a mistake entering my amount into the card machine so just decided to add it onto his bill instead without telling him. Awful, dishonest, rude behaviour. Entirely unprofessional. The lady DID put our freezer blocks in her freezer and return them to us the following morning and she did make us the restaurant reservation. And of course both women were perfectly patronising and condescending with soft voices and fixed smiles. But I cannot think of a hotel I have stayed in where customer service and interpersonal skills were so utterly lacking. Abysmal.

OkThis hotel we stayed at for one night while travelling to our holiday destination. When we booked online from the photos we thought this to be a hotel more country based than town but found it to be on a busy road. Thankfully wed asked for a quiet room so were situated at the back of the hotel. Again photos were misleading as we thought there to be a big garden but it is only very small indeed. There is plenty of parking but be aware if you leave very early as we did then you need to park at front as gates are locked. When we checked in we had a very warm welcome indeed and were helped with our dinner reservation which was great, there is a bar so we were able to get drinks, we were shown to our room however we had a family room with two doubles there was a view of the garden but the room was very dark indeed the toilet was separate to the bathroom and very small and there was a bath but only a shower head no actual shower which we found difficult. The room was spacious however so dark, but they advertise in room they have DVD player and dvds to use and when we asked they said they didnt. The hotel was quiet and we managed to get some sleep, beds were okay and the room was clean. Overall an okay stay - staff were lovely.
