Another one night stay only! After 3 days of camping in Czech Republic we drove 5 hours to Dresden and booked this apartment en route. Very conveniently we were still provided the keys even though arriving after 10pm again! Parking was free and available on the street. Clean, spacious, free Wi-Fi - oversized bathroom! Warm and comfy with local amenities close by. Gave us a great launchpad to explore Dresden the next day and move on to our next destination. Had to pay extra to have kitchen facilities unlocked and so this was the only let down.

Very nice and clean hotel, good location for rest. The hotel is very clean and equipped with everything you might need, you can even pay extra if you want to use the kitchen, which we did not require, so I cannot speak for that. The location is not in the center, but it is very close to the tram station where you can get the tram to the center. So basically you are 10 minutes away from the city center. And there are cheap short trip tickets available for purchase in every station which are usable only for one trip in one direction.

OK . . . that's about it, OK.Depends on what you're looking for really. If it's simply a bed for the night in Dresden, with hot and cold running water, and you're not too fussed about having to travel out to the suburbs and finding the place it'll tick the box. If, on the other hand, you'd like something in or on the edge of the altstadt area, that has a degree of comfort and where you can grab a beer or coffee before retiring to bed after a day visiting the sights of the city, it won't. My friend and I stayed one night, which frankly was enough. AltstadtPerle is a hotel with a very small "H" (it says "hotel" on my confirmation). It isn't staffed after 18:00hrs, so if you do as I did and omit to read the small print, and turn up after this time and without access to your e-mails or a telephone, you really are stuffed - as you won't be able to retrieve the instructions to access the keys from the keysafe (at the rear of the building next door) to enter whichever building your room is in and your room. Luckily we finally got through to hotels.com on my friend's phone and were given the instructions verbally. This place is located approx a 10-15 minute tram-ride away from the city centre (4KM+?) in a poorly lit residential area with little in the immediate vicinity. There are no gasthofs, bars or hostelries nearby (the nearest one we found was a "sportsbar" a kilometer away - frankly not great), and my travelling companion and I had to catch the tram back into town to find somewhere to eat. Our twin room and en-suite was basic but clean and charged at EURO 40 per night. The rooms are only cleaned once every six days, although you can pay extra (EURO 5 per day) to have your room attended daily. Breakfast if you opt for it is an extra EURO 8 pp. The Receptionist on duty the following morning when we checked out was pleasant and efficient. Bearing in mind all of this, and the hassle we had to contend with, this is not one I'd return to when visiting Dresden again. As the previous night my companion and I had stayed at a 3/4 star historic hotel, having a bar and restaurant and being just 10 minutes walk away from the StadtCentrum, in Weimar for just twenty euros more this place didn't really do it for us, and put a bit of a dampner on our trip to Germany. One of the risks of booking blind over the internet I suppose?

Decent value for the pricePositives: Convenient location , friendly service, plenty of space, varied breakfast. Negatives: Mold in the bathroom, dated facilities, funky smell, inconsistent and abbreviated lobby hours, breakfast lacks quality and freshness. We spent two nights here to visit the wonderful Dresden Christmas Markets. The reception was locked when we arrived at 1630 on a Friday. The lobby hours are very short and normally end at 6pm. We found that the reception was unpredictable and closed even earlier. We were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to an entire apartment with 2 bedrooms and kitchen when our reservation was only for a single room with 4 beds. Our apartment was spacious but dated. There were a couple of small things broken in the room, but the hotel quickly fixed them after we informed the reception. There was mold in the bathroom that gave the apartment a feeling of uncleanliness. The residential location is quiet and relaxing with convenient public transportation options into the center of Dresden. The breakfast is average. It could be much better with improved presentation and fresh ingredients. Overall, this place offers a bed at a comparably discounted rate within commuting distance to the center of Dresden.

OK for one nightNothing to write home about. Cheap, clean, a little dated but otherwise fine for a night or two. Good location close to a shopping mall and tram. Walk to the historic city centre is about 30 minutes. Street parking for free in front of the hotel.
