Disappointed- poor attitude, lousy service bordering on dishonestWe stayed at Antico Casale while attending a book fair in Bologna, and booked based upon reviews on this site. The hotel fairly clean, but that is all. Rooms are ok, but pretty uncomfortable. At 100 euro/night (almost $140 USD!!), it is a rip off. Firstly, beware that it is NOT 25 minutes to/from Bologna - it is almost an hour, and that is if you do not get lost as the turn off from the highway is very poorly marked, and there are a lot of twists and turns to get to the hotel...which is also poorly signed. Prepare to be confused and frustrated at best, and lost, going round & round in circles at worst. 2nd - the staff at the hotel may as well work at an office. Their view is that you are there to sleep and pay, and not bug them for anything beyond that. There is only one person on site at anytime, no one after 11pm, and they do not speak English (which was ok with me as i a managed in Italian). One day we missed breakfast, and when we asked for tea & a croissant an hour later, the same person who would have made the same cup of tea and served the exact same croissant (that was lying on the same platter and place as for breakfast an hour earlier) had the nerve to CHARGE US FOR IT!! Then, when we slept late (due to jet lag) and left the room at 11:55, they charged us for cleaning the room, as cleaning staff apparently only work till 12!!! And when we protested the charges upon check-out, all of the sudden there where 3 people at reception, all arguing with us. When we flat out refused to pay for the cleaning, the woman at reception threw the differance in cash at us, while her daughter called us 'uneducated' over and over again. We were in shock - we thought we were being resonable by even being willing to pay for the tea & croissant that was supposed to be included in our room rate!! We thanked them and left, never to cross that threshold again. And all this when the hotel was empty apart from us. This place is in the middle of nowhere, not worth the money, and pretty depressing overall. There are better, really charming places to stay in the region....

Nice Hotel, great service and value for money. The hotel is perfect if you need to be on a flight. The rooms are nice and clean and the staff are really nice and helpful! The staff even drove us to the pharmacy when my girlfriend was sick and needed antibiotics, he even came in and helped translate what we needed to buy.

Italy ParadiseThis property is amazing! We stayed here for four night and Salvatore and his family were gracious hosts. Wonderful views of the sea and hillside. Great place for a base camp. The meals were incredible!

Excellent place, excellent breakfast, excellent people- Good value for moneyWe loved our stay in this hotel. The Staff is super welcome and really does all that is needed to make you feel like home and respond to the requirements one may have. Rooms are super clean, bed extra comfortable. And the nice smell in the bedroom... Overall the place and the location remind you of old preserved times of the past, when people were genuine and less sophisticated... Such a nice athmosphere. The Hotel is just 15 minutes drive from Ferrara and there are plenty of things to see on the sourrinding zone, either by car or byke. The hotel is located in a lovely rural area where I advise you to take a walk or go for a byke ride. From the Windows of my rooms I had a super view on the country and it was so peaceful! We tried also few lovely resaurants nearby: one just next door in the sourrounding properties (you can literally just walk there!), the other in the village (by car). Honestly we haven't been disappointed, my husband, myself and my daughter ! A tip: wake up early enough to taste the homemade cakes with the delicious coffees. The smell is gentle enough to wake you up with love. Thanks for the great stay and lovely athmosphere.

Lovely peopleI only stayed one night on my way north to Austria. It was a random choice as it looked nice on the internet booking site and it was sort of in the direction I was travelling. I am very happy to have stayed here. I received a great welcome and much assistance from the owners. I don't eat much breakfast but the array of cakes, croissants etc was very impressive and the coffee was very good. The restaurant next door was fully booked, but I was directed to another excellent place a few minutes away..My single room had everything needed for a comfortable nights stay.
