    Needs to be refurbished !

Away for the week with friends! Have been to the resort before but not this hotel. Facilities for the public are good but not if you are actually staying there. State of the rooms seem to differ. Our bed was extremely low. Our bathroom not too good. Large crack ran all along the back of the sink, which didn't look very nice. The toilet was so close to the shower I did bang my head on the bottom of the toilet cistern when I bent down in the shower. As shown in some of the photos I was a bit worried about some of the electrics, especially the ones by the bed. However the rooms were clean and fresh towels everyday. The dining room ... where do I begin? Constantly short of cups at breakfast time. They need to throw out all the chipped or broken cups and plates. Needs someone to keep an eye on the cutlery situation a keep a good supply of everything. How they ran out of eggs one morning is beyond belief ....when there is a supermarket down the road. Waiters need to trained properly and not stand over you waiting for you to finish your meal to take your plate away ... not good! Ordering drinks was a bit complicated too. Also the menu had to be translated into English for us each day and the descriptions sometimes was nothing like we got. Goggle came out better. Plus side The pool was beautiful because we were virtually the only ones in it. Bar and karaoke - well organised and run efficiently. If as much effort was put into the diningroom it would be a lot better. The girls on reception were excellent except when one of our party fell down the stairs opposite the reception. It was another patron that went to her aid ... nobody moved from the desk or asked if she was alright after. It was a good thing there was a group of us because it became comical as the week went on, to see what else could go wrong! They all work hard and are polite but need to do better.

    Great staff.

Rosemary and I are just back from a very enjoyable long week-end at The Hotel Amalfi. First off, Francesca and the rest of the staff on the reception were all very helpful, pleasant and professional. The room was adequate and although dated, was comfortable and the air conditioning work a treat. The bathroom was small but this is to be expected from a hotel built in the 1960's. I had a shave every day and a shower at least twice a day with no problems. The breakfast was good and the two coffee machines in the dining room were great. The trick is to press for a cuppachino and then top up with a shot of espresso.., perfect cup of coffee. The pool was very good and was a good size and not too crowded, we could not have done without it with the tempitures being so high. The private beach was also a Godsend. I would go back to Amalfi and I would reccomend this hotel. Tip for a great restaraunt in LDJ is 'Rustico'. Rstaraunt.'.

    There are better hotels

Not one of the best hotels we've stayed at. The room was VERY basic and the shower was tiny. The sink blocked up and I ended up cleaning it out myself (not pleasant). The room was shabby, as was the whole hotel which is in need of a complete refurbishment. However, the beds were made every day and clean sheets provided during the week and we got clean towels every day. The swimming pool is quite large but the internal edges of the pool were filthy. In fact the whole maintenance of the hotel left a lot to be desired. The bar and outside area was OK, but the bar manager was a little surly and unwelcoming although the rest of the staff tried their best. Ordering food and drink was silly, we ordered off one person, was served by someone else and paid a third person !! Ordered a club sandwich with French fries as a side dish and a couple of beers , the fries came 10 minutes before the sandwich, the beers came ten minutes after the sandwich all served by different people, so it felt totally disorganised. Parking is limited in the hotel grounds and they charge 10 euros per day, but you have to go to reception to ask them to open the gate whether you're entering or leaving because the keypad didn't work Breakfast is the typical continental one, slices of ham, salami, cheese, rolls etc. the same every day. There is a snooker table in the lounge area but the cloth is ripped to shreds and kids were jumping all over it and no-one said or did anything about it. We don't recommend this hotel and wouldn't go again. Try Harry's Hotel which is 50 yards away. Much better !!
