Don't go unless you have toWhat a lovely looking place, great jacuzzi plunge pool, quite nice rooms with good ensuite. A fairly good meal. What was wrong, well not very clean rooms, strange army issue type blanket on very strangely adourned 4-poster bed, very unfriendly welcome from owner and totally lacking in any sort of friendliness. Good job we were with friends with whom we had a very good evening. All I will say is that we do not mind paying for good service, etc, but what you pay at this place is really not worth it.

Brilliant! After leaving a bad experience behind us in Poitiers, we found Hostellerie les Hauts de Sainte Maure which was like an oasis. Not having made a booking, we walked in and received a good welcome, then shown to our room which was lovely. The room was clean, nicely decorated and included a very comfortable four poster bed. There is a lovely warm plung pool with jacuzzi which we had to ourselves - absolutely wonderful! Although on the expensive side, we decided to have the breakfast - great decision. I'm not normally a fan of the typical French style of breakfasts - but the croissants were fresh and tasty, the marmalades and jam were all made by the lady owner (?) and were the best that I've had. (I must remember to send an email to ask for the recipes.) This is not a cheap hotel, but they say that you get what you pay for and this is a great place for stay/stop-over.

Ideal for a night stopUnlike some of the reviews here, we enjoyed our overnight stay. We received a friendly welcome and were shown to a comfortable four-poster room. We enjoyed a swim in the splendid if small indoor pool/jacuzzi. Unfortunately the outdoor pool was too cold and a little unkempt. Cocktails in the courtyard were agreeable although I am not sure why we had to share just one dinner menu. Dinner itself was fine with good home cooked fare. We slept well and enjoyed an adequate continental breakfast before departing on our way. I would stay again if in the area.

Heavenly Garden, Very Kind Owners, Delicious Food!We are so fortunate to find this beautiful property, an ancient auberge on the route of the postal carriages lovingly restored with refinement creating beautiful rooms with warm tiles looking onto a splendid garden. Quiet, restful sleep, beautiful food for dinner served in the garden. We will make this a destination hotel, meaning we will come here again just for the hotel and its splendid ambience, food and service.

Could be wonderfulWe had pre-booked two nights her in June. On arrival we were greeted by Frederike ( I hope that is correct) who spoke excellent English and was very helpful. The car park was at the back of the Hotel - had to drive around, and then to be let in by an owner. So very secure, but a nuisance to have to get let back out again. A code would be a good idea. Quite a big area , mainly trees and shrubs and patches of imitation grass! However this was not at all well maintained and the paths were full of weeds ( and obstacles), such a shame as it could have been beautiful. The photo I took from our bedroom window just shows the overall picture (no weeds etc) and it looks lovely. There was in indoor pool and an area outside with sunbeds. However it was so unkempt, despite the heat I wouldn`t want to use it - again such a shame. The place is very old and the room was large and obviously had had a lot spent on it as the bathroom looked brand new. The furniture, however was old, but "not renovated, so looked uncared for. The bed was very comfortable. There was it Air/con, Wifi, and a TV which we didn`t use, and also I think a safe. We booked dinner the first evening. Again a very strange set up of furniture. I was seated in a large armchair, on cushions and felt like Alice In Wonderland. The table was poorly laid with a creased runner across and old table. The food was edible but uninspiring - not the standard we have come to expect and love in France. Having read the French reviews (via Google translation) it appears the menu hasn`t changed in two years.... I am hoping that this is a project in the making as and when funds allow. I would love to see the garden maintained, the furniture looking cared for and a good menu and this a successful venture as the host was very helpful, and I hope he sees it a "constructive criticism"
