Lovely stayWe chose this hotel because we were looking for accommodation in this area on a Sunday and wanted a hotel with a restaurant which would be open for dinner. We were a little nervous given some of the previous reviews of this hotel however we were agreeably surprised on all counts. We arrived earlier than expected and had to ring from the front entrance. Our host was welcoming and even helped carry our bags. Later, when we couldnt work out how to switch on the TV, he willingly came and showed us what to do. We had a standard room which was nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. Our room was at the front of the hotel facing the road and we did experience some traffic noise in the early morning which was surprising given the quiet rural location. Dinner was excellent and we were very well looked after by our host. As well as the food and wine, there were other nice touches such as the superior cutlery and napery. We finished the evening with a glass of Armagnac in the library a lovely sitting room for guests with a good collection of books and tourist information. Next morning we met madame (who is the chef). Some previous reviews suggested she might be somewhat problematic. However, in her dealings with us, she was reserved but perfectly nice. She served us an excellent breakfast including pot-set yoghurt, fresh fruit and brioche. We left with nothing but good feelings about this hotel and its proprietors and we would happily stay here again.

What a findIt was really lucky that the first Logis we tried was full because we then phoned the lovely Hostellerie du Clos Pite. When you go looking for the hotel don't be worried by the long and winding road that you think is going nowhere. Keep on because when you do get there it's really worth it. Downstairs is filled with intriguing evidence of the local culture and, charmingly, the bedrooms are all named after local fighting cows. The bedroom decor is very tasteful and comfortable. But the food is sensational, really Michelin quality. My starter of prawns, avocado and cucumber was excellent and set the standard for a glorious main of heavenly fois gras with apple and the dessert of mille feuille with apple and cream. My husband had goat's cheese and tomato chutney to start, a huge steak, which had to be cut in half in order to be cooked medium rare, and a creamy armagnac dessert. Waking up on the edge of a forest with no traffic, literally no traffic, was magical. We'd go back tomorrow.

Julie & ChrisWe stayed almost by accident and were really impressed. Comfortable, peaceful, interesting, welcoming, spotless traditional french hotel with lovely food and very kind owners. Don't be put off by some old negative reviews, give it a try! We will certainly go out of our way to go back when next in France.

Peaceful and TraditionalQuite a remote location. We were welcomed by the friendly owner and shown to a s[acious and comfortable room with views across the countryside. We had a decent bathroom with both shower and bath and a separate loo. There is a surprising range of public rooms, featuring a billiard table and a very nice bar. The bar had a draft beer (Belgian?) which was surprisingly good for France. We enjoyed the dinner, although we were given no choices. Very decent local wine. Breakfast was good, too. A great place to stay.
