Delightful two night stayWe stayed here for two nights en route south and couldnt have made a better choice. The staff, the room and the food were all 5 star. Our room (no 5) was bright, prettily decorated with some quirky touches, and overlooked the village church (thankfully the bells are silenced between 11 and 8). The bed was large and comfy, the shower and bath good and we were delighted to find the Brits holy grail of a kettle and fridge. Theres a little garden to enjoy a drink from the bar. We ate in the restaurant on both nights and thought the 35 menu great value for such sublime cooking and the wine choice was excellent. Semblançay is a great base for visiting nearby Châteaux (we enjoyed LIslette in Azay-le-Rideau and Villandry). If we ever return this way well definitely stay here.

A great stay!We broke our journey south here for 1 night and loved it. We had visited before but the hotel has since changed hands and the decor is now bright and elegant. Our room (5) was quite small but had everything we needed. We walked around the village which was very quiet for Ascension Day and enjoyed a drink in the garden before our dinner. The young man who looked after us spoke excellent English and was extremely helpful. The food was amazing - worth a stay for that alone! And breakfast was excellent too. Definitely recommended!

Home from homeThis must have been my 10th or more visit since I first came here in 2006. I find La Mere Hamard ideal as a base for cycling in the area around Tours. The room (no 1) was large and comfortable; the breakfasts were delightful as always and on the two occasions I had dinner at the hotel, I ate great food and drank excellent wine. The proprietors are most welcoming and friendly. I always feel at home here, and the sleepy unexceptional yet charming village of Semblancay suits me down to the ground.

Excellent!A perfect place to stop off whilst touring the Loire situated as it is in a beautiful and peaceful village north of Tours. We had Room 11 in the main building - spacious and well appointed with an excellent shower (bath also), climate control and tea and coffee making facilities. Superb breakfast too served from the buffet by staff due to Covid restrictions. Dont miss dinner in the restaurant - a separate review.

Nice quaint hotel but felt ripped off at the restaurantThis place was strongly recommended by some friends, especially the restaurant where, they said, the table d'hote was amazing value. We found the rooms quite charming if a tad old-fashioned. My partner does not eat meat and because she did not like the main course of the day ordered a Plat Vegetarian. Rather than a substitution for the main with an extra charge we ended up being charged as if entirely ordered a la carte. The veggies were, frankly, nothing to write home about: we compared them very unfavourably with recent experiences at Ambroisie and l'Epicurien in Albi, where the flavours sing. I had the recommended pigeon and it was quite good. The food, two courses each, came to 104 without wine. Definitely won't be back.
