  Friendly service, lovely abbaye

  We like to stop at this hotel when we are near Selestat. It's lovely, it has a very good restaurant with delicious food, good wines and excellent service. Everybody is very professional and friendly. You can explore the city and part of Alsace from there or you can simply stop for one night. You will always feel welcome. Only one negative note: the breakfast buffet is nice but small and if you get there just after a group or a big family... please be patient !

  No to be recommended

  We expected this hotel to be quite nice as it was not cheap. The atmosphere and the rooms gives the impression of former greatness, but it now seems rather worn down. A bigger problem was that we had booked 7 rooms including 5 rooms with 2 beds (as this was a company tour where we shared rooms) but this is no way what we got. Instead we got 6 rooms with Grand-lit, a not very big double bed with one blanket ... not very successful. When we talked to the reception about this, they did not at all feel responsible for the wrong description of the rooms, and were not inclined to do anything about it. We had dinner at the hotel as well but the food was bland and uninteresting. Furthermore, several of us got either too cooked steaks or steaks that were ice cold in the center. When we returned a steak that was very overcooked the cook gave us a new one that had barely seen a frying pan and completely cold in the middle. Not a professional way to handle this. We have written to the hotel afterwards but have had no response from them at all. In short, we can definitely not recommend this hotel.

  Elegance in the Alsace

  We rode up to this hotel after biking the Alsatian Wine Route and what a surprise. The Hotel is super charming with window boxes of geraniums everywhere. Our room was lovely and cozy with an inviting tub and comfortable bed. We had dinner in the restaurant as part of our bike tour, and it was the best meal we had the whole trip - tuna steak for a starter and a beef filet for the entrée. Melanie, our server, was delightful and attended to our every need. Breakfast was ample and served in a beautiful sunroom. Truly elegant experience.

  Desperately in need of some TLC

  We have stayed in this hotel several times over the years. It used to be owned by a charming couple who also ran a half decent restaurant on the premises. Sadly they went bust, and it has now been bought by a chain I never heard of, called Popinn. The bones of the building are lovely, but it was always reaching for a grandeur it never quite achieved. When it was a family run business, its quirks and faded glory were charming. Now, run on a budget by a chain it is losing even that. This could be a truly lovely hotel. It needs a complete overhaul. They have a young and seemingly very determined director, but they also need to give her a decent budget. You cant run a hotel of this kind with a barely functioning portable air con unit with a tube sticking out the open window letting all the hot air in. Or a mono-dose coffee machine in the breakfast room that would be barely fit for purpose in a bachelor pad.

  nice hotel in Selestat

  This is a neat hotel with exposed beams everywhere. The breakfast was wonderful with so many choices and the staff was very helpful. The staff gave us local recommendations for food and stuff to do. A great hotel for the cost!
