  Worth the price!!

  Such an amazing resort thats absolutely worth going to! The rooms were beautiful, clean, and spacious. Right outside our room was a waterfall which added to its relaxing atmosphere. Additionally, the bed was more than enough to fit about five people. The goods and amenities were also outstanding. They provide anything from toothbrushes to a 4-step skincare routine. Moreover, the onsen is a wonderful experience. As soon as you reach the front desk of the resort, you are greeted with beautiful architecture and a relaxing ambience. They also provided unlimited tea, mochi, and coffee. The staff were also extremely kind and helpful. They responded quickly and addressed any concerns. They even provided a car service that can take you around the area. My family and I were extremely satisfied during our stay! We will definitely be staying here again and checking out the other Hoshinoya resorts!

  nice hotel

  very nice hotel deserve stay at least one time during your travels. All the staff are very friendly. The Japanese service impressed me a lot. Having a walk in the hotel is very enjoyful. The hot spring is also amzaing.

  Lovely Stay in February

  We visited in February, and enjoyed every minute of our two night stay. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Special touches included the musician in the lobby playing...something (Chimes? Bowls? Small drums? Whatever, it was therapeutic and lovely!), bundling up in blankets on the outside deck and heating mochi over a small brazier, soaking in the wooden bathtub or onsite onsen, and walking through the adjacent nature preserve. We also found the bed to be super comfortable and the Hoshino area to be easily walkable from the hotel. There are a few nice shops and restaurants there, including a bakery that opens at 8. We also enjoyed a kaiseki dinner at the hotel, which was excellent. One minor piece of information that might be helpful for someone visiting is that the information booth at the train station has a schedule for the hotel shuttle pick-up times. For a lovely, upscale ryokan type of experience, I would highly recommend Hoshinoya Karuizawa.

  Very good - not perfect

  We stayed as a family of four and really enjoyed our two days. This is a very expensive place, and you certainly get your money's worth with the service, the food and the setting - but the room was a little underwhelming and in need of a little care and love. That said, we had exceptionally complicated food demands and both nights, the kitchen went of its way to accommodate us - and it was stunning!!! The marshmallows by the river, the great welcome to the sound of traditional Japanese music and the smiling staff everywhere were great. We travelled to see the Snow Monkeys from there for a day, and it was easy to do. If they renovated the rooms, its easy another star from me.

  A Peaceful Retreat in Nature

  Karuizawa is a hidden gem very close to Tokyo. We went on our own little architecture tour looking at all the unique properties dotted within the forests, and decided to stay at Hoshinoya Karuizawa for a peaceful retreat. Unfortunately, it was rainy season, so we couldn't do any of the bird-watching or eco walking tours offered by the hotel. Loved the onsen experience, the kaiseki "zen" meals, wandering around the gardens, and relaxing on the balcony to fresh air... all contributed to a wholesome and wellness retreat experience. The Hoshinoya brand is luxury that's not over-the-top, with a unique traditional Japanese touch that you can only experience in Japan, for example offering the experience of zen gardens (designed by experts), and the art of bathing (wearing yukata and geta), Japanese interiors, etc. All these details well thought out for the guest to have a deeper cultural experience of Japan.
