Very pleasantly surprisedI have a pre-conceived notion about budget, independent motels, but Hometown Inn in Staunton, VA far exceeded my expectations. This is a clean, comfortable motel offering a pet friendly room with 2 beds at the most reasonable price point. To be completely honest, I wouldnt normally have stayed here, but I am pleasantly surprised and Ive found a great motel at a great rate that I will revisit when I drive this route again. When I saw photo of the lobby building online, I wasnt sure that to think. As it turns out, that building is a historic building, built by Hessian prisoners in 1778 during the Revolutionary War. The front desk and a small lounge/breakfast area is on the bottom floor, and the inn keepers family lives upstairs. The rooms look like dated, with some of the shower and plumbing fixtures looking quite outdated. The bed covers were also dated and the mattresses (at least the one I used) were soft. However, the room was clean, the linen was fresh. There were 2 sinks - one in the bathroom and one outside of the bathroom - which was very convenient! The room had a mini-fridge, microwave, flat screen tv and an alarm clock. There was WiFi, but I found it to be an inconsistent in my room. But the biggest surprise (and one that I unfortunately wasnt there long enough to use) was the patio and open access to grass from the room. If Id been traveling with my dog, this would have been an invaluable extra that many motels simply cant offer. Im short, I accidentally discovered a hidden gem of a motel on a route I drive 4-5 times a year that I will certainly revisit.

The worst Hotel experience in over 32 yearsAfter driving 13 plus hrs. I was beyond tired however the HUGH sign right behind the check in desk in bold red letters "Absolutely No Refunds" should have alerted me to what was to follow. "Pet friendly" .....I would not put a dog in these rooms. I slept with my clothes on on the top sheet only. I did not even attempt to use the bathroom. Checked in at 6pm and left at 2:30 am to the sound of drunks returning from the bars. This place should be shut down by the board of health....if there is such a thing in the county. I have stayed in cleaner hotels in Central America. A waste of $50.00. Shame on Bookings.Com who asked me today(I stayed there on Tues evening) to send them photos. I intend to file a Beter Business complaint on Monday. Anything to prevent others from being ripped off.

Never AgainWe've stayed here a few times in the past with no issues. Our most recent, and final stay, was an unqualified disaster. It began with several lodgers loitering outside the rooms, including ours, drinking and evidently repairing their vehicles well into the night. We did not know the hotel doubled as a auto repair shop. The final straw was being woken at 10am and told to leave, after requesting, and receiving, a late check-out at noon. The night attendant obviously did not note our check-out time, and the day attendant had zero interest in honoring our request. We will never stay at this hotel again.

what a dumpnasty terrible, scum in soap dish- dead dryed bugs in bedding, ac units did not work. matrress from 1950s blue strips, micro-wave had scum in it an brown liquid. no ice machine- they give you a sandwich baggie with ice cubes from their frig. threw away. right side of dump is rented out to down an out people, county homeless or such. not clean trash in ac units from 1960s kids toys. we had to stay there cause of mix up with another hotel. ask to see room first than go back an laugh an say what the hell

Not the nicest place we've stayed. This was the only place we found close to Edelweiss Restaurant and we needed a place to stay overnight. We only live about 80 miles but didn't want to make the long drive at night. Room rate was cheap so we booked. I was a little nervous when entering the office area to check in. It was very dirty and smelled bad and the walls needed a paint job bad! We found our room however to be clean, new refrigerator, small microwave was clean. No ice vending machines available so had to buy a bag from store across the street. There was a beat up small charcoal grill on the patio. Room could use some maintenance (sink countertops were unlevel and very low). But the bed and bathrooms were clean and the bed was very comfortable. Would stay again just to be able to go back to the restaurant.
