  Home Inns Budget Chain - friendly to your pockets

  There are many no-frills economy hotels in China and Home Inns Chain is one of them. We stayed in Shanghai for a week and checked in Home Inns at Mengzi Road (about US$21-23 per night) and supposed to be near to many major attractions. The front desk is always busy and the manager in charged seems to be "stressed up", however the trainee who served me was professional instead. The room is cramped (read: small) and cleanliness and comfort level is above average. However the location is unknown to many cab drivers despite walking distance to hip Xintiandi. The surroundings is rather dirty as it is situated in a residential neighbourhood so unless you are having a small budget, there are other alternative hotels to stay.

  Just barely average...almost gave it a poor.

  I chose this hotel as I wanted to be in this neighborhood to see band play. First off, not a great neighborhood. Pretty junky and a bit run down, certainly nothing to write home about. I have stayed at many hotels in this similar price range and this one is possibly the worst. VERY dirty carpets and floors., small rooms, just pretty bad in all honesty. At least the girl checking me in was good and was pleasant. If you need a place to stay in Shanghai that is clean, nice and cheap, I recommend the Genting. It is cheaper and FAR FAR better. This Home Inn I cannot recommend. I won't be staying here again. In fact at about 3 am I woke up and considered booking something nice just to get away from here.
