  OK hotel - and gambling on the side

  Good value. A large hotel connected with a large casino. You can use the hotel without even seeing the casino, if you prefer. Location fine just off the Interstate, a few miles from downtown. We used in for tourism including a day trip to Bar Harbor/Acadia national park - about 90 minutes away. Lots of restaurants, fast food places and a supermarket nearby. Overall everything was clean and in good condition. TV in the room had a lot of pricey pay per view-options and was a bit confusing. Biggest complaint: It was very hard to control the heating/AC in the room - this was confirmed by the receptionist. Breakfast is not included in the price. The casino has three restaurants, one of them serve breakfast which is mostly very basic, but does include hot egg meals fried to order. (A Tim Hortons next door is a good alternative). Another restaurant in the casino - HOPS House 99 - serve very good honest food in a nice atmosphere. They charged a separate 10 $ extra per night for things like wifi and a newspaper - I am not sure if this is optional.

  Convenient Location

  We chose Bangor as our base of operations for touring northern and western Maine during the fall foliage season. We were able to get a reasonably-priced flight into the Bangor airport where we rented a car and drove a short distance to this hotel. About an hour north and west of Bangor, there are some scenic drives. Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are about an hour east of Bangor. The hotel was reasonably quiet and comfortable, with parking and wi-fi included in their $10 per night resort fee. They have a bar and pub on site, and on weekends, there is also a buffet restaurant. Guests of the hotel get a 5% credit on their restaurant and bar tabs if they charge the costs to their room. There are several other restaurants within walking distance of the hotel also. Parking is in a garage adjacent to the hotel. We were always able to find a space near the door between garage and lobby, so never had to walk far from our car to the hotel. Other pros and cons of this property are listed below. Bottom-line: We'd stay here again if we were in the area. +Nice view of the Penobscot River from our room. East-facing window afforded a pretty view of the sunrises and fall colors. +Bathroom had a tub/shower combination and was clean and thoughtfully-appointed with a spacious vanity and recessed shelves. +Ample dresser space. +In-room safe +Casino on site +Hotel tower is separated from the casino by a long hallway, making the hotel seem quieter and more exclusive. +Front desk personnel were pleasant and check-in was efficient. +Complimentary bottles of water provided each day in the room. +/-The mattress was firm. I found it comfortable; my husband did not. +/-The room was generally quiet, but one night I did hear noise from the television and an alarm clock in a nearby room. -No concierge on site. -No refrigerator or microwave in the room. -The room had a coffee maker and tea bags were provided, but since tea doesn't taste good when prepared in a coffee maker, I didn't make tea during our stay (and we don't drink coffee.) -The room seemed chilly when we checked in, and it was unclear how to operate the thermostat. It had a recessed button on it. I used a ball-point pen to depress the button (the only way I could access it) and that seemed to activate the climate control system.

  Lovely stay while on your way to Canada.

  Easy off the highway. Garage parking. Updated decor. Staff are obviously happy to work here. Beds are American Comfort. Bathroom clean with soft fluffy pillows. The Casino is quaint with loose penny slots and numerous current styles. The gym is perfect. I am giving the manager Stephen an extra thumbs up for having a well run hotel.

  Its got everything you could want. Food, gambling, good place for dancing. Live bands play here. The bar is full service. You can have a meal in the bar area. The wait staff is friendly and helpful. Service is good, no nonesense. Timely.

  Passing through

  We were passing through and needed a quick hotel (with good ratings) to stay at for the night. We chose this one and it was fine. Maybe we should have picked something without a resort fee but oh well. The room smelt a little funny as did the hallways.... but the room was clean and spacious. We parked for free in the garage.... not sure if thats standard or if its a corona time thing. Currently waiting for some charges to drop off my card...if I run into issues I will update but hopefully thats normal and will be settled.
