Rude staffI have stayed here three times (last time was about a year ago) and had a great experience every time - except for this time. The staff was rude and acted like they were doing me a favor by even checking me in! Maybe the hotel has changed ownership as the staff is all different. Anyway, I wont be staying here again.

Modern rooms super comfy beds!If theres 1 thing that holiday inns get right it's the beds.. we had a king size...the sheets and linens are buttery soft and clean! We were on the 1st floor..so it did seem the halls were a little lively for a Sun nite. The 2nd thing that holiday inn get right is the breakfast egg white omlets..biscuits and gravy lots of fresh options made this stay a great value. The parking lot is large, well lit and maintained as we were traveling with a large trailer. Would definitely stay here again.

Couldn't even get through the reservation processWe had called to book a room for an upcoming wedding this coming Labor Day. With Covid we had waited a bit to make our reservation. When I initially called I was told by the individual at the front desk that they couldn't help us with making a reservation under the block name, only the manager could. They couldn't share any information about the block- rooms left, rate, anything... he suggested we contact the 1-800 number to make our reservation. So I called the 1-800 number to be told we had to contact the hotel directly. SO then I call back to speak to the manager about the block. Apparently the block closed on August 5th which we did not have knowledge of, but with COVID we know the hotel industry is suffering and people are not able to make reservations the way we did prior. I asked if there were any rooms still left in the block. I was told it didn't matter because the block rate was closed ( aka-yes there were rooms, but we aren't going to give you a rate break). I then say, "Ok, I'll just make a reservation then." To which the manager replies, "I'll transfer you to the 1-800 number." Nope! I just made a reservation at another hotel. I'm sure the hotel is very nice, but the lack of customer service, lack of common courtesy, knowledge, and flexibility during a very uncertain time makes me wish to stay somewhere else. Unfortunately I am not able to share this review directly with Holiday Inn as they only allow guests who have stayed to have the ability to offer a review. Honestly if even once I had heard, "I'm sorry maam.Let's see how else I can help you.' Or 'I unfortunately can't offer the block rate, but let me see how else I can help you with a reservation.' we would probably be staying there. Bottom-line... if guests are a nuisance then perhaps this is the wrong business for you. ;)

Worst Holiday Inn Express we've ever stayed atWe moved from the Overland Park Holiday Inn Hotel to be closer to the family due to a death in the family. The Hotel was fine but this location was not convenient for our visit's purpose. We stayed 4 nights b/c of the stress due to circumstances and we had thought we'd leave town sooner. To begin with, the lobby was so cold in September all 4 days that the employees had to wear very warm clothing all the time. The thermostat was set to 66 degrees. I wanted to use the pool, but I did not bring warm enough clothing to walk to and from my room to the pool area. It was also too COLD to bring our take-out dinners into the dining room to eat instead of eating in our room. We were avoiding eating in restaurants due to COVID. Over-all everything is dingy and has a depressing dirty look and needs refreshing badly. We did request to have our room vacuumed the 2nd day and the tile mopped. The room refrigerator functioned poorly. The grout in the bathroom had broken spots and blacken areas and something over the shower area that appeared to be a fix. The shower did not drain well. Breakfast due to Covid19 was bread and bagels set out to toast yourself (so not really grab and go)--bags were set out but you dyi'd it.) and cream cheese/butter in the frig, the standard 3 juice dispenser was on and coffee in the morning. Also small apples and oranges set out, too. They had a small and limited selection of muffins sealed in their wrappers set out. (We understand the grab & go concept and this HEI offered more than the next HIE (Guthrie OK) we stayed at which did not even have the juice available. The HIE in Sherman Tx we stopped at on this trip offered hot food, cereal, fruit, yogurt, etc. with an employe to dish it up for you). I think the price may have been lower to reflect the limited breakfast. We had a few spiders and other bugs in the room and one looked like a small centipede. It made us wonder if there is pest control used there. No sign of bedbugs or we'd been out of there in a flash. The exit door at the back had a number of bugs inside the entrance doorway. The toilet lid was also very loose and okay if you left the lid up. Lighting in the room is kind of dark. They do have USB plugs at the desk and nightstands which we liked. The ice machines were both empty the morning we checked out. The location is relatively convenient to a few restaurants, 1.5 miles from a Target/Kohls store, etc. FEW restaurants in the area. It is right off I-435. I called IHG and spoke to customer service about our experience and they listened. I hope they are getting the owner to get this unit up to HIE standards. Oh, interesting decor/framed print in the Bathroom -- weird modern art, which is okay--but oddly looked sort of like a "Picasso toilet"--not a complaint, just a comment. To be positive: The staff was friendly & helpful--no complaints. No greeting to us for our IHG loyalty status, though, but not a problem, just an observation...maybe they were just feeling chilly. The bed and linens were comfortable. We would not recommend or stay here again. There was small safe in room. It is in a fairly quiet area off the interstate and far enough away to not get highway noise.

Visiting FamilyWe came to town to visit family and go to Science City. The check-in was smooth, until we got to one of the rooms. The key didn't work had had a red light on the lock pad. Then the next morning no real breakfast was available. A sack with a muffin. The rooms where nice and comfortable. We do, also enjoy the pool.
