    Wouldn't recommend it (to anyone).

As you enter to the lobby the first thing you see is a ping-pong table, parked bicycles and groceries (instant noodles, water, juice, etc) sold at the front desk - all prices written on a pink paper with black marker (how tasteless!). While waiting to check-in we had to listen to karaoke singing of not so talented individuals - the door to the KTV, which is in the lobby, was mostly open and staff didn't even bother asking to close it. Rooms were mostly clean (not counting stains on the carpeting) and the view was quite nice. The main problem was that there were people singing karaoke till exactly 2:30am, in our room we could hear everything and my friend couldn't fall asleep until they finished. Then we were woken up at 7:30am by the sound of several lawn-mowers. Definitely not how I imagined spending the morning of a Sunday. Breakfast buffet was a joke - no scrambled eggs, no ham, only lukewarm(!) milk for the cereal. Overall this Holiday Inn is a disaster and it's a great example for hotel management students of how NOT to run a hotel.

    Depends on what you want

This hotel is quite cheap - so if cheap is what you are looking for then this is the place. It costs about £35 a night bed and breakfast although the breakfast is poor quality and the bedrooms are basic. It is clean although make sure you ask for a non smoking room as they allow smoking in some and the rooms smell badly of cigarettes. There is no bar or communal area ( although we did meet in the breakfast room one evening and brought drinks in from the local shop).

Great ocean view - otherwise yikees

I loved the great ocean view. Got to see over 100 dolphins eating for 2+ hours from my balcony. There isn't another hotel that is on the ocean. Without a major renovation of the rooms, I don't recommend this hotel: dirty and old (rugs, sofa cover, mildewed desk chair, etc.), lousy internet connections, location is a challenge (except for the sea wall/sculpture area), limited breakfast food selection. Bed was two box springs, I think. I could handle all of that, but I didn't like the way other customers treated me at the breakfast. I was the only Anglo and most people didn't want to sit near me or let me sit at their table (family-style eating environment).

Great Ocean View & Lake View

Nice View of the Hotel from Ocean & Lake. Staff is very Good. Good Co-operative, just to understand English, use of Android phone is good. If you are looking for a good budget hotel, this is the best option.

    An Usual Spot

The Holiday Inn Express Nanhuizui is located in the middle of nowhere. However, it's a fairly interesting nowhere, being on the edge on the ocean. This would have to be the only hotel in Shanghai on that can claim to have ocean views. Although as it is around 90km or an hour and a half by subway to the city, it's probably a stretch to say the hotel is in Shanghai. So don't plan to stay here if your real destinantion is Shanghai. The hotel itself is pretty standard HIX in China. This means the rooms are nice, the wifi is pretty good, but the staff have limited in English, and the breakfast isn't what a non-Chinese customer would expect. But for an interesting trip off the beaten path in Shanghai, this hotel makes the grade.
