  Pleasant but noisy - served a purpose

  A pleasant enough overnight stay. Arrived late but still received a warm and friendly welcome. Room was clean and comfortable. Difficult to use the desk with the sofabed pulled out and the double bed was on the small side. COVID breakfast arrangements were good with a decent grab and go selection that could be taken back to your room. My main complaint would be that it was quite noisy as soon as people started to get up and move in and out of rooms as the bedroom doors are very heavy and noisy and almost impossible to close quietly. Frustrating when you want a lie in.

  Good value for a stop off

  For the price, this hotel is incredibly good value. Beds are comfortable and the shower cubicle is huge. We were on the ground floor just past the lifts, facing the car park, and didnt have any noise from neighbours or outside. The rooms are quite modern but they are dark, theres not enough light. Staff were friendly and able to recommend a reliable, local taxi company. In terms of COVID, the bedding was very clean but the remote control and hairdryer both looked quite grubby, so we didnt touch them. The sofa bed also had a few stains (make up?) on it. The breakfast set-up was as good as it could be in current circumstances. There is no buffet, you take your breakfast back to your room. We were told to come down one person per household/room but there were family groups at the breakfast station as well as a few people not exercising social distancing - but theres not a lot the hotel can do about that! The breakfast on offer was all pre-packed, the only thing you have to touch that others may have touched is the milk and the tea/coffee station. On offer was cornflakes, porridge, coco pops, weetabix, fruit, yogurt, croissants and bacon rolls. A vegetarian hot option would have been appreciated. If you are vegan or gluten intolerant then you wouldnt be able to have much at all. Location is good if you are using it as a stop off on a longer journey or visiting something nearby, but its not in the city centre so wouldnt advise it for visiting Newport itself. There is a pub next door and a cafe and greggs a little further along. Overall the hotel is nothing special but we were comfortable with the covid precautions, had a good sleep, and it is very good for the price we paid.

  Room fine; Covid breakfast needs variation

  Room fine with everything working, staff friendly and professional. "Complimentary" Covid breakfast needs variation for the traveler who stays several nights. I am not expecting a cooked breakfast but some more choice would be nice. Not just a choice of a croissant every morning please! Any other bread bun would do for variation, plus a slice of cheese or ham, not just sweet jam please!

  What a place to stay

  Amazing hotel especially with what is happening with covid at the moment, staff were great, what stood out for me was the manager nial what a asset to the holiday inn express brand they are very lucky he was friendly, very professional and had most of the guests laughing nice to see when the world is such a glum , all hotels need a gent like this, will 100 percent be coming back for that again

  excellent

  this is the third time this year I have stayed at thus hotel in what are difficult times for the staff. the hotel is impeccable. spotlessly clean and the staff are thoroughly professional and with no limits to their assistance I cannot praise the hotel highly enough. always a pleasure to arrive.
