  Excellent service and convenient location. Great IHG addition!

  It is my first experience with Holiday Inn Express, after regular stints in luxury hotels like Crowne Plaza, Mariott and Pullman. I took the leap of faith purely due to the IHG branding which has been consistent in its excellent service and warm hospitality. I am glad I made the right choice. Here are the reasons why: 1.The hotel has excellent staff. I am totally new to Changchun. As the hotel was just opened in May 2018, there are hardly any photos of the actual hotel, no reviews and google map suggest a barren residential and banking area around the hotel (may need to get Google to update their map to show the mall, and the gym). However, I must credit the excellent staff for their resourcefulness, service, helpfulness and promptness in replying emails. I emailed the manager Anna a few times to inquire about the area and places to visit. She was fast in replying and reliable in giving good suggestions. More importantly, the team was highly resourceful in finding contacts, something not all high class hotels will be so helpful. One example was I was hoping for a tennis session to work out during holidays as Holiday Inn Express chains have no gyms unlike the non-Express ones. She helped me to book a nearby tennis court and local coach before I arrived. I was amazed that she even provided a post it notes on what to tell the taxi driver and the contacts before I set off on that session. The team also gave good recommendations on the famous tourist sites and the nearby facilities like the gym and the shopping malls. Throughout my stay, the team was also very prompt in attending to request and always approachable and friendly. Every staff I approach from the lift to the chambermaid that cleans the rooms will immediately greet me the moment I see them (excellent service). For example, when I wanted a vehicle transfer to airport on the last day, I could see the staff calling the transport company immediately after I told them. Such speed is usually found in 5-star hotels and not always seen in 3.5 to 4 stars hotel. It is amazing service that this that really makes my stay highly enjoyable and memorable. 2.The location is also good. It is in a good location, despite being around 30 mins from the main shopping districts. There is a big mall next to the hotel, known as the Vitality Mall that has practically everything you need. Starbucks that open from 8.30am to 9.30pm, McDonalds that opened at 8am, a big supermarket BHG at ground floor that offer goods at competitive pricing, numerous shops and restaurants at the higher levels of the mall, and even a cinema on level 4. Next to the mall are many other eateries, not short of choices. Thus, it complements the hotel well as there are never a short of places to dine and entertainment to occupy your evening. The fact that it is not at the main shopping area is also a blessing as taxi drivers are usually more willing to travel to the hotel rather than the constantly traffic jam main shopping areas. Getting a cab from the hotel is also easy when you walk to the main road just in front of the Vitality mall (next to the hotel). 3.The rooms are also relatively safe and up to what we expect for an IHG hotel. The lift can only be operated with the room card access. The waiting time is also fast as there are 2 lifts operating in 7 levels. The rooms are comfortable. I stayed in a superior room as the standard and superior price difference is very little. They actually labelled the hard and the soft pillows on the covers. The hot water takes 20 seconds to heat up, good by international hotel standards. All the charging sockets are international ones. Hence you can use your chargers without finding an adapter. The 40-inch TV shows local channels but they should be getting international ones soon as this hotel is just opened. The corridor decor is light wood with dim lighting, creating an inviting atmosphere. The only addition the hotel can look into is perhaps a sign indicating which direction is the lift as both corners of the corridor look the same. If you are hungry, there is a vending machine that sells snacks, drinks and even toiletries like soap. Prices are surprisingly reasonable. A bottle of Coke cost RMB 6, which is similar to a chilled Coke I get from the BHG supermarket next door. There is a lounge next to the vending machine you can read newspapers and relax too. The only item that can be added to the vending machine is probably instant noodles, as the shops around the hotel closes by 10pm and the hotel does not serve food at night, so finding food may be hard after that timing. But this is just small issue as there are convenience stores nearby that opened till later timings. 4.The last reason has to be the breakfast corner. They have a wide spread of mainly international food despite small breakfast corner. The main highlight has to be the Juta coffee machine that can churn out all types of coffee. The sound it emits when the coffee is made brightens up the day too. The staff is also attentive and fast in clearing the plates and topping up the dishes, especially the fried egg. In conclusion, Holiday Inn Express Changchun is definitely a great addition to the IHG chain. The location next to a big mall, the facilities and more importantly the excellent service goes a long way in making every customer feel important.   Great triple room

  The triple room consist of double bed and single bed in 1 room but different area. There's divider for privacy which is great. The breakfast are good for non Chinese tourist and tasty. Many choices for coffee. Helpful staff.
