A lovely place to staySpent 2 nights there in our recent trip to Central Japan. I found it the most wonderful place we have ever stayed in Japan. The decor, the food, the people are all very nice and warm that we would love to return to this place again. The room is very stylished decorated and equipped with everything you need. Breakfast and dinner were so delicious and sumptuous. The people also communicated with us in English, and offer recommendations for places to go. Everything were so great that we had an enjoyable, relaxing stay there.

Clean, quiet and comfy. We wanted a cottage but all they had were rooms, so we were assigned one right above the reception. The only gripe I have is that it is rather expensive for half-board. But hey, it's Japan's national past-time to stay in a expensive ryokan for a night or two. This doesn't really qualify as a ryokan but it works in a similar way. The hotel is in the vicinity of a couple ski resorts so if powder is what you can looking for, it's great. Having a car is highly recommended as there not many amenities around. Nothing to say about the rooms themselves. They are in tip-top condition, warm and clean. You won't go wrong. Gujo is a quaint little place off the beaten path. Spend half a day strolling Gujo-Hachiman town. Old towns like these are getting extinct.

Holiday at Green Garden Holiday House.A very nice complex situated in an equally nice location. Away from the crowds and the traffic, this is an ideal location to just chill-out. Very well appointed suites and very friendly staff. The town is an ideal destination if you are an avid skier or just want to appreciate the Japanese countryside.

One of the best kept secrets! Such a lovely cosy stay - our home away from home!I was attracted by the woody Scandinavian look from hotel photos. And it was exactly how it when we arrived. We had the loft cottage and our kids (13 and 10) were overjoyed with the choice. The loft immediately became their sanctuary and they were totally at home with their own floor. It's a very comfortable space for our family of 4. There is a kitchenette which would have been really useful if we had stayed longer. It is very clean and self sufficient. Take note that the hotel is about 30-40mins drive away from Gujo Hachiman city center, so you would want to explore the city before you drive up to the hotel. Also note that if you will need to make a reservation for their dinner or BBQ at your cottage (this is not mentioned in their english website). However right outside the hotel, there are a few eateries (Italian and Chinese) and there is also a convenience store right round the corner so you will not be left with no dinner if you arrive late. But the Italian food we had was nothing to shout about, so please plan well before your arrival. If you relish a quiet vacation base away from the touristy traps (eg Takayama), you can easily use Gujo as a base to travel up to Shirakawago or to Takayama. There will be people who prefer the buzz at Takayama but we found Gujo absolutely peaceful and wished we had more time in this place
